The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Couldn't get nobody to offer to place mine where I want it...

Maybe g'nad will do it! He wants it on his butt!

Johnny Cunningham, the fiddler from Silly Wizard

Both he and his brother, Phil, are outstanding musicians!!

There's this thing at my church called MOPS. It's a support group for moms to I guess sit around moaning the trials of having preschool kids. Puh-leeze. I'd rather hang out with my preschool kid than most of those moms.

It doesn't help that the shrink I got in a fight with in my Sunday school is leading the group. That was before your time, but the rest of the Hole remembers it.

Yeah, wish I could see them together.

Some of Phil's solo stuff is a bit out there for my tastes, though. But both of them so obviously have FUN with what they're doing.

It's frustrating for the rest of us. Johnny did a couple of things like playing a real at high speeds with all kinds of embellishments and still with BEAUTIFUL tone, and when you thought you'd heard it all, he'd play the same thing in a minor key, just goofing around. Effortlessly.

I like Sam's! We used to have one close by, but it closed and now the only one is over in Worcester, about 20 mins. away.

even when we were crabbing we used fresh chicken breasts on the bone...

Yikes! What a waste of good chicken! Crabs are scavengers; they'll eat anything! We always used fish heads after we had finished cleaning and fileting the catch of the day! We'd keep them in the freezer, and take them out as we needed them to fill the traps.

We used chicken necks where I grew up (Texas Gulf Coast). The bait shops sold them frozen in great big plastic bags.

Also, back out behind Dow Chemical there is a real curvy road...people getting off work would drive off it and land right in a very deep coastal backwash. Sometimes you'd hear about how nobody knew they were missing.

Crab bait.

Speaking of chicken guts, etc. Check out this article our son David told me about. It is about bio-reprocessing and it sounds very interesting! Anything Into Oil
