The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Would they eat the chickesn?

With adequate training, I doubt it. Herding dogs are overwhelmed by the herding instinct rather than the urge to kill like you see with the terriers and hounds. The greater danger is that the chickens would be too stressed to lay their eggs if the the dog chased them around too much.

A corgi would be ain interesting choice as they are much smaller and a slower than, say, a border collie.

I'll need a pastoral Shire setting, forested Rivendell/Lothlorian section, import a few mines, and fit a grand city all on 20 acres?

The folkses at Disney could tell you how it's done...

Afternoon everyone.

Raining again here. Honestly, this place must get all their rain in one week. It hasn't rained more than a couple of hours the whole time I lived here and it's rained 4 days this week now.

the little boutique dogs like Shih Tzus and Lhasa Apsos seem to be the more popular

Those always remind me of rats. My Oliver cat would like to eat one someday...

Hello! It's pretty dreary here too...if it clears up, I'm going fishing even if I go by myself!

It's not currently raining here. We didn't bother opening the pool today. When I know it's just gonna be my kid and a couple of his friends in the water, I don't have to worry too much about customer relations.

I'm here avoiding work. Jr. is at choir practice. Mrs. and Luke will be with family either in SW VA or NC until Tuesday.

Well, I hope you get to go fishin'. I was wanting to go riding. But, it's just not the weather for it. Folks keep telling me about riding to the Wichita Mountains. I saw them from the interstate and wasn't impressed but there seems no other scenic place so I'll try it... eventually.

I'm pretty much doing the same. Operation Declutter hit a lull.

Amazing. I got rid of my stacks of paper. Except for 4 things I need to put in the filing cabinet. But, I can't get in the filing cabinet without unplugging the computer so I'm not doing that now.

Oh that's right, I had forgotten about your friend's dogs. They ARE gorgeous.

My oldest brother had a collie puppy many years ago, but it was a real biter, and he had two little boys, so he gave it away. Silly thing bit me in the ear once! I guess I must have been about 11 or so. I was on the floor rolling around with it and it just chomped right down! I bled like a stuck pig!

Oh gosh he's so CUTE! That size dog might even be intimidated by a bunch of chickens. They might end up herding HIM!

Smeagol now looks worse than Hair's #6 cat. She's positively chopped.
