Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Well, I caught a catfish! Actually, I caught it and as soon as I had it set on the hook good, I let Matthew reel it in. It gave him a lot more fight than the any perch he ever caught and that was thrilling for him...he didn't give up and finally got it in. Josh was a bit upset that he didn't get to reel it in at all, so I caught him a lightening bug and put it in a little plastic box my treble-hooks came in. He was happy then. Note the little box he is holding in the picture below. The fish didn't stink...Matthew was just goofing around.

You may also note that Josh is petting the fish in the picture. This was a mistake on my part and I regreted it mightily when Steve proceeded to drive a nail through the fish's head into a board. Josh went all to pieces. Besides it being after 10pm and he was exhausted, he thought the fish was going to be a pet he could play with for a while. I hauled him squalling into the house while Matthew watched Steve gut the fish fascinated.

Josh is sleeping soundly now, with his lightening bug in the box by his pillow, blinking off and on.
Great pictures in the spoiler thread...Pippin looks unbelievably good!

I made my special bean soup todayMind sharing the recipe? I have one that has green chiles and a dash of powdered ginger along with about 7 or 8 different beans. It's called Friendship Bean Soup, and you are supposed to 'present' it in a jar with the beans in different layers. It is pretty to see, but even BETTER to eat! You can even lower the fat content by making the ham broth the day before, chilling it, then skimming the fat off of it!

Count me in on the cooking!
To: JenB
And there has to be a rule that those who do not cook have to clean the pots afterwards! I LIKE that rule!

Yee Haw!! It's 'Farmer g'nad'!!

Well, since I'm probably funkling, I might as well make it good!!
We'd be getting off in Miami, right?
Oh no, we won't be going down that far! I'll have to see if the train stops in Orlando, or if it hugs the Atlantic Coast on the way down. We'd be stopping in Melbourne if that's possible or somewhere close by. Melbourne is South and East of Orlando, more in the central part of FL, on the Atlantic Ocean.
Just got back from picking David up at the Providence airport. He's home from CMU for three weeks, then he's going back. He's taking a Stats course this summer and doing some research with some professors. He's thinking maybe MIT for grad school. It would be neat to have him closer by.
He finishes all his requirements for graduation in the Fall of 2003, but will hang around CMU and be a TA for two of his profs. He'll do the graduation ceremony with the School of Computer Science in the Spring, then stay in Pitt until their lease on their house runs out in July. Then it's on to Grad School.
Have you made any decisions about Grad School?

And now, I still love to sit around after a meal and have 2nd hand smoke. LOL!! When SSQ's Daddy had a quadruple bypass, the doc made him quit smoking. He'd sit across from SSQ's Mom while SHE smoked and just suck that smoke right on in!! That lasted for about 6 yrs. until SHE stopped smoking. He lived for 13 years after that bypass, so it must not have hurt him TOO bad. Unfortunately, it did hurt her. She died two years after he did from lung cancer.
I'm glad SSQ and I never started the habit!
To: 2Jedismom
That's a nice sized catfish!! Good eatin!!
You're going to have to be very discreet when you start thinking about eating those chickens!

Since I'm about to double-funkle, I'll bid you all a good morning!
To: SuziQ
Goooood morning.
I slept in. Felt nice. Will be off to the DMV to try once more for those blasted drivers' licenses soon. I think we'll take an armful of evidence we live at our address. * eyes the pile of junk mail in the recycle bin*

Good Morning!
Tried to sleep in this morning myself but it was too hard to ignore the claws stuck in my face.
Good Luck with the DMV...DMV is open on weekends?
I've got real estate agents coming next week so I reallly need to clean up. I wonder what they would think about this big bag of vermiculite I've got sitting in my living room. :)

Good morning!
Let me get some tea started and catch up now.
Suzy, Ruthy is in charge of kitchen organization so we're going to let her know that you're in on cooking! She volunteered to do something in way of planning - don't know if she's gonna make a chart or what.
Ruthy, Suzy's on the kitchen help list.

I wonder what they would think about this big bag of vermiculite I've got sitting in my living room. :) Well, we know that I'm not normal. But, I would be favorably impressed with anyone with a big bag of vermiculite in the house.
