The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Sorry about your brother. How old is he? Must be tough for him to have his mother pass on his birthday. Maybe you should celebrate his birthday on a different day for awhile.

Hey, good morning all.

I'm listening to radio news reports of a high speed chase through Dallas right now. Police chasing a semi going in excess of 100MPH. WOW. Wonder if he's carrying anything illegal?

Wha happened? I missed it!

I can't believe I did that. It was the absolute worst of things I could have posted. I thought I was doing a private message! And it was worse than tatas and David. it was info i found on the missing dwarf

So now he's MY mandolin elf? Can I tell him that? ;-)

YES.

We are the official elf arrangers-of-relationships. That was skipped over in the books because it was the prevalent custom and everybody knew that's how it worked. It was never suspected that a generation would come without the knowledge of arranging relationships.

If there will be chocolate malts at Entmoot, I just HAVE to find a way to get there...

In that case...... There is no doubt. There WILL be malts at entmoot. Just get there.

Now they've got him stopped in the Median. He ran, they tackled him and cuffed him on the ground.

I wanna know what's in that SEMI!

For him to do that to us isn't all that surprising, but to do it on a day that was already tough...well, I want to strangle him!

My family is weird. Myranda and I are not close to anyone except Grama and one uncle and aunt. I understand insane family. I support you in your strangling. I will confirm your insanity plea. They make you that way.

But this may be the only way he knows how to deal with the fact that your mom died on his birthday.

I don't think it has anything to do with that, to be honest. He's not been close to the rest of the family for years, and Dad has really been trying to make an effort to involve him in holidays and such. Ben has other priorities.

Perhaps. I wonder how long I have to listen before I find out. Or if I will find out. Un-answered questions like this do for me what continuing TV shows do for others I know.

He just turned 21. And we did ask him what day he wanted to have some sort of party...that's why I'm so mad!

I guess it wasn't as bad as it could have been, and I don't think he did it just to bug us. He just wasn't thinking. But he does stuff like this all the time - doesn't take into account that it MIGHT hurt people's feelings or cause inconvenience if he changes plans in midstream. Grrr!

Days likely. Conclusions to news stories aren't nearly as captivating (ratings-wise) as high speed chases.

I have been surprised that this is something that would attact so many men.

Beg pardon?

Good morning all!

I support Rosie's brother.... he should have let them know, but he's a guy, and he shouldn't be spending his 21st birthday at the sandwich shop with the family.

Time to go out with friends that make you drink lots of Irish Car Bombs!

Oh well then. In that case, I'll hold him down and you can kick his @$$.

This was EARLY, tho! And he said he couldn't leave work!

We weren't talking about a long drawn out deal...just ten minutes of eating cake and a few small presents. And he has NO excuse for not letting us know.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I pulled a similar stunt like that once.

*snaps to attention* Now that you mention it. I am probably the queen of this behavior if you asked my family. Not like you describe your family though Rosie. I grew up with my mom's parents. They were the ones I bonded to as parents. Then as my parents got older they didn't want that, they wanted control. Except there was quite a different lifestyle and abuse. As an adult I have made a policy of NOT being around their insanity. So, I don't show for stuff they think I should be at.

Myranda and I just keep close to Grama. She's the safe stable person left. My grandfather died 24 years ago. It's really been VERY hard since Grama has been living with my mom and dad the last few months. My dad has been accusing Myranda and I of killing grama. Causing her death. She isn't dead yet. But, time before last when we visited she told me she doesn't get out of the bed because she can't stand to have to be in the room with my dad. She did get up and come in the living room and sit on the couch with me. She turned and looked at me and said, "don't live to be so old that you hate your life." tears. I can't stand seeing her this miserable.

She won't be around much longer. When she isn't I will have no further excuse to associate with those people.

Well if he picked the day that was very inconsiderate. Strangle away, 21 is not to old to learn manners:)
