The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Okay, send me the recipe and I will make some. I just don't particularly care for cookies so I didn't know.
One thing I am going to try to do for him is one of our old family recipes. It's this thing called Hunting Cake. The women have made it for several generations because it keeps on hunting trips without the benefit of refrigeration. We keep it refrigerated until we're ready for the trips but I've backpacked with it for several days so I'm going to try sending him some.

Hullo and good mornin' Hole Dwellers!
Lil'freeper - I love your new Frodo pics! I can't wait for my turn to have him! :)
Rosie, Hair, WN & JenB - my internet connection shut down last night and I couldn't get back online for some reason. I *hanging head in shame* still have the AOL dial up service at home and it can be unreliable in the evening! Sorry to have left so rudely!
2J - did you get my check yet?
Anyway, on to breakfast!
Bacon, egg and cheese on toasted Cuban bread, along with 6 platters of bacon and sausage for extra nibbling! Sauteed mushroom and green pepper omelets are on the hot plate and OT, your hash browns are ready! Coffee is brewed and juices are chilled. ENJOY!
I spent good chunks of time last night trying to get through to vote for Clay on American Idol and only managed to squeak in 9 votes. :(
May the best man win and may God bless thme both for their hard work!

If you're ever feeling touristy and need a place to stay in the DC-Baltimore-Philly corridor you're welcome at our house- that is if it ever gets built. AWWW You're so gracious to offer! That area has been one I've wanted to visit since I was a child. Think it has to do with my dad's long discourses on history at the supper table. For some reason that I can't pinpoint Ft. McHenry has been one of those spots that I imagine to be a real goose bumpy place to go. (wish I could think of a more appropriate term) Like the Alamo.

What is Dean Dome?
To: RMDupree
Well, I snagged some bacon. But, I miss the dwarf.

Sorry to have left so rudely! Eh.... we just figured you had been taken by orcs.

So where was Myranda?

300winmag - do you have any idea if Tom would need electrical tape?I don't think electrical tape is high on the unmet-needs list of most GIs. If you need it, someone always has some. AA and AAA batteries are always hard to come by, though.
Since the government stopped putting cigarettes in field rations in the early 1970s, I always thought batteries would have been a nice substitute.
The military buys zillions of that kind of battery, and there's a list in one of the issues of Ranger Rick's Digest that gives the proper federal stock number to order them.

Well, I snagged some bacon. But, I miss the dwarf. Me too, WN. All of them have abandoned me!

Eh.... we just figured you had been taken by orcs. It was not a pleasant experience! And no amount of cursing would get it to work again!

The theater teacher had asked her to help with selling concessions afterward and then clean-up. She saw that I had called and called me back when I was leaving to go up there. She told me to come on up that she would leave then. (I think she welcomed it, seems to be tired of being the one always depended on to be there for the clean-up and such jobs.) So, she didn't get to have the chit-chat visit that we thought. She was working those little buns.
To: 300winmag
Okay, I have extra batteries here. I will put them in. Thanks. I needed to know that.
To: RMDupree
Did it open the room and then hang at "logging in...."? If your Java locks up like that, the only thing I have found that will save it is a complete reboot of the machine.
To: RMDupree
Fret not, there's plenty of room for you to jump to the "Hobbit side" of things! LOL

The Dean E. Smith Center....where the Tarheels (try to) play basketball:

It was not a pleasant experience! And no amount of cursing would get it to work again! BTW, my dial-up is no better. Remember that day last week? I left and came back about 10 times I think. A couple of times I have not been able to get back in at all either.
To: Overtaxed
Ahhhh. Hope Frodo isn't insecure about his height challenge.
To: HairOfTheDog
Even worse Hair. It was acting as if I didn't have an internet connection at all. I kept getting the "server not found" screen of death!
AOL would simply not dial in anymore. It seemed like there was a sudden glut of people dialing in at the same time or something. Very frustrating!

McHenry is an interesting spot, an oasis in the midst of an industrial harbor and urban decay. I was a little white knuckled driving through there. But the fort itself is beautiful. It is one of the 'star-shaped' forts, an elegant bit of stragery I dare say. The walls are covered with grass and rounded with age. The grounds are manicured with nice handicapped-accessible sidewalks. The giant flag dominates the park- it can be seen from just about every spot. The real one is down in the Smithsonian behind glass; discolored and torn but still proud. I'm getting misty-eyed just thinking about it. Yes it is quite a place and you really should visit someday.
To: RMDupree
Not yet...mail should be here in about an hour or so. I'm watching for it!
