Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good morning! I got up and fed horses and walked once around pasture - Very briskly!
I forgot to count off the distance.... gonna try to figure it mathematically this morning when I have had more coffee.

Morning all!
Rosie! Did we monopolize the conversation on gardening? *sheepishly covers face*
300winmag - do you have any idea if Tom would need electrical tape? I was buying him snacks in WalMart this morning and had to get some for myself, which made me wonder if he would need some? Or does the army have plenty of that.
Hope there is still bacon..... I'll be glad to see Corin today but I bet he got the bacon because I bet he beat me in.

Should I include some snacks? I was planning on it, when I sent his box to you. I have it sitting waiting to fill up in the living room. It has his book set with the labels in them and everything...
What should I send? What does he like? The box is 12 inches square, six, inches high.

I forgot to count off the distance.... gonna try to figure it mathematically this morning when I have had more coffee. Let us know what you find out! I think it may be farther than you think...

Rosie! Did we monopolize the conversation on gardening? *sheepishly covers face* Well...I don't think YOU did, but I realized afterwards that I basically barged into the room while you and Jen were carrying on a conversation and starting blabbing about my plants. Kinda rude of me! I apologize.

Yeah, this is stuff that I'm more interested in making sure he learns and enjoys...so I do a bunch of "lecture" which is just me discussing what is in the workbooks instead of him just sitting down and reading it and filling out the blanks. The only things he actually writes are the tests. That way I can prove he's learned it.

Well, I have beef jerky, snack crackers, life savers, poppycock, little debbie stars and stripes, brownie snack cake thingys and devils food cake snack cake thingys. and fireballs. And 2 things of sweetened lemonade mix. Since he's a platoon sergent he feels like all his platoon is his kids so he shares all he gets with them. I think I've got him a lot this time but if you sent more I know it would tickle him because he could share more.
What I didn't get him was any of that sunblock, chapstick, wet wipes type stuff because Jill says she, his mom and 2 of his aunts have sent a lot of that kind of stuff. He was lacking in snack stuff. So, that's why that was what I got.
You know, I really don't bake cookies. Does anybody here know if they really keep well if you bake them and send them? And if so, would it be just as good to get the refrigerated cookie dough and bake them?

And he loves it (and so does Josh) because they curl up on the couch with me while I read it...

What is the time line for your move? Will you be visiting any time soon? Duhhhhh.....I'm scheduling a meeting with a real estate agent here. After that, she'll be able to tell me how soon I could expect it to sell.
As for KC, I'm thinking sometime in July (or late June?) for a visit. Since part of my group is in Stilwell, they'll just fly me out there for a "business trip." It shouldn't be too hard to find something to rent that I could stand for a year. :)

You know, Myranda hasn't been home schooled but she knows so much more about history, geography and government than her classmates just because I like to rattle on about them so much. Sometimes just hearing a song on the radio or something will remind me of some historic point or something and off I go. My dad was like that with us and I have loved those subjects my whole life. And I see that in Myranda too. I think that by your doing that with the Jedis you are really giving them a gift and lifelong interest in learning. IMO of course.
To: Wneighbor
So I'll go ahead and get some snacks that might fit down in there...I know Little Debbie type snacks are popular...they keep in the mail. I'll see what I can get that will fit down in the box.
You should bake the cookies yourself. I can send you a very easy molasses cookie recipe if you like. Easy as falling off a log. Those refrigerated type cookies are yucky, imo.

And he loves it (and so does Josh) because they curl up on the couch with me while I read it... And aren't you still learning and really into it? Never mind. I can tell you are. Myranda gets more science from my gardening and camping expeditions. Also, we have a couple of friends who are geologists. She is more interested in the geology than my botany but she does learn a lot just from her interaction with adults doing these things. Seems to me a lot of her friends miss out because they are not interacting with adults actively doing these things with them.
Our passion as grown-ups doing this stuff has sparked that interest in her. Even if hers is not to the level of a passion for geology or botany I think she'll find "her thing" as she grows through her tweens.
