The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I had a feeling you might have trouble getting 2 chicks. Feed stores don't usually sale them that way except at Easter, when you buy them already there, not order them.

I'll have plenty in 2 wks:)

My husband is sitting here reading all this as I scroll, and he said to tell you you can order them over the internet. He says to go to google, type in chicken hatcheri, pick one out and order from them. They will deliver then to your house, what ever breed you want.

Lake Eufala is about 1 1/2 hours from Bixby, I go there all the time to ride horses.

Well, I've talked to the older guy and the younger guy more than once and not once have they said "Sorry, we don't order them that way." They just said "Sure, we'll order a couple for you." They were supposed to be ordered as part of their "next order" whenever that was, and the young guy told me the next order was supposed to come in today.

He actually even told me they had a bunch of Buff Orpingtons but had sold them all out, when I came in the first time (they had a brooder full of other kinds...straight run variety, I guess.)

I just don't understand why they don't come clean with me, if they aren't going to do what they said. I even asked him "Should I just give up on this?" and he said "No, check back tomorrow!"

It's all vey strange. I'm going to call tomorrow, but after that, I may take you up on your offer!

But they won't only send me two! Minimum order is $25 and I don't even want to pay for that many!

Tell me is he a conservative?

After today's jaunt into the liberal cesspool of Baltimordor I'd say he's practically a libertarian.

It's all part of a criminal culture that's common knowledge among that class of people.

*sigh* I feel so snobby now, I'm too high class to get a driver's license! ;)

2J - have you figured out a plan to keep the neighborhood cats away from your chicks? My MIL's neighbor had her chickens killed by cats...even full grown ones! They (cats) can get into any yard, fenced or not.

Well, they'll mostly stay in their little pen, except when we're out in the back yard...then we'll shoot any cat that bothers them.

You know, the one thing that drives me nuts now that all the dogs are gone at my house is the number of cats that come into my yard to poop and kill birds. They stroll through like they own the place!

Dino was old and practically toothless, but he kept the stray cats away! LOL!

Cat lovers on this thread...please do not be offended. I like cats, but I don't like their little "gifts"!

Where's this place at?

You know 2J, not to be pessimistic or nothing:) but do you think any retail place comes clean with customers now a days. I don't. seems you always have to turn into a raving loon to get them to do anything they say they will do. JMO, of course. But that is how I see it.

BTW, I am on my way to the feed store in a few minutes, I will ask the owner (we are very well acquinated) if he can order just 2.

I also know a girl who is fixing to order some chickens, maybe if yours don't come in and she hasn't ordered them yet she can add 2 to her order.

I like cats too, but all animals should be under the control of their owners. Or at least most the time (accidents happen, cats and dogs get out accidently now and then).

I feel the same way about dogs running free at the city park, barreling up to my kids, making me have a heart attack. I don't allow my kids to run up to people's animals, either...it's rude and can be dangerous.

I remember people actually rushing up to Terra (my greyhound that tore big holes in Matthew's face) and dragging their kids up to pet the nice greyhound, as I walked her on her leash. This was right after I got her, straight off the tracks, and she had no people skills at all! I would beg them to stay back and most of the time they completely disreguarded me.

Anyway, if a cat or dog (or snake or racoon) enters my property and attacks one of my children or animals, I will kill it. I stop short of shooting the cat that crosses the street daily to poop in my flowerbed...but I resent it immensely and don't speak to those neighbors because of it.

It's Lee's Feed on 11th and I think County Line Road, back of BA.

But I know just what you mean and it's annoying. I'm a no-games kinda gal and I'd rather someone be upfront with me so I can go about my business. And maybe these folks are and I'm just worrit about nothing.

If he says he can order them I won't order them today in case yours come in. If he will I will let you know and then you can order them when you want. I go to the feed store here in Bixby and will let Stan (the owner) know you will be coming in. How's that. But if you want me to I will, no problem.
