The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Sorry. There are no third options.

On the Yahoo site. Question is, if given only the two choices, is whether Miz Hair would prefer Spam or Elfbash! in THH3.

"I think that may worry my wife more than the Tolkien stuff"

Yeah...good point...tho I believe my wife appreciates that I can rant and rave on the computer instead of in the house.

So do they both have a flea allergy then?

The frontline will get the fleas and stop new itching, but if they have already had a reaction and are losing hair, the Predizone will turn it around faster. Feel their lymph glands. Normally you can't feel anything. If you find anything that feels like a golf ball, they are having a reaction. You can feel the ones in the dog right under his jaw, about where yours are on his neck, and the cat's under his back legs on his belly.

I don't think Prednizone is a permanent solution, no. Predizone is a steriod, and hard on systems to be on it permanently. If you eliminate the source of the allergy, that would be better. Frontline is probably good, I use Advantage on my flea-allergic cat.

Got to spend the last 2 and a half weeks with my wife and daughter...

It sounds wonderful. A nice restful time at home with family sounds just lovely!

Annual checkup time, eh? Poor kitty.

Whenever my kids were babies and they had their shots, I'd lay down with them all day if they felt bad. Joshua never had much problems with them, but Matthew...whew, they used to knock him on his backside. He'd run a fever and just lay around all day. I'd give him tylenol and then curl up with him and hold him while he slept and he would just jerk and twitch.

PG usually takes her shots without a fuss and doesn't have any reactions. She just doesn't like going to the vet in general....she hunkers down on the table and sheds a lot.

Hee hee...just be glad it's a kitty and not a couple of Dalmatians! You know those half doors they have in vets offices? If I take my eye off one of my guys for a second they are over it and running through the clinic like a halfback running through the secondary (with the front door as a endzone). Both of my guys got loose one time and nearly gave a heart attack to a cat and a Dachsund (who were waiting with their owners by the front desk), bowling them over as they headed for the door. Didn't give a second look to the cat...which is incredibly strange for them.

Kitty has her carrier between her and the dog-customers in the waiting room.

Should I put catnip in her carrier this time? Last year it drove the vet's office cat nuts trying to get into the examination room!

One of these times I am going to get smart and take my dogs to the vet just to brush them. I could get all the loose hair off them and be set for a week!

Story:

When we took the dearly departed Maggie in for the last time, this couple brought in this huge dog that was hurt. Right there in the waiting room, it attacked both the owner and the owners kid. Bit huge bites on their arms. They had to call EMS and everything! We were in an exam room thankfully and only heard it (the boys too, who had eyes as big as saucers). The vet, who was examining the late Maggie, dashed out and I don't know how they did it but they got the dog tranquilized and wrapped up the people's arms in gauze. They got the dog in the back and I took the boys to a dollar store next door...we passed right by where the dog had attacked and there was blood all over the place, but I don't know who's...the dog's or the people's! The vet only told my parents the dog was hurt, not how.

The end.

Yeah, a trip to the vet is going to be exciting (in it's own twisted way) anyway...might as well go for the gold.

I think that's what we'll do before we go with another shot. We just need to make sure we're consistent.

That's what I use on my dogs...to very good effect (my female is allergic, my male not - but both get it alike).
