The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'm going to find a place to rent at first.

Yep! I'm planning on being "saucy" at interviews:

"Why do people call you the 'Evil Empire'?"

"Why is your turnover rate so high?"

"If you have all week and weekend shifts covered, why are you asking for so much overtime?"

"Well duhhhh....after being in this industry for XX years, of course I know how to pipet and use an analytical balance, moron!"

I've already got the dishes and such...two sets of each so I can be washing one set while they are using the other set. This is the coop Steve decided to make...it's good for our climate, it only gets really cold a little bit during the year.

We haven't got it built yet. Steve worked on the underside of my sink and got it finished, where we had to tear it out for the leak, you know? We have a few weeks for the coop, they are going to be tiny at first.

Note that the above coop is on "skids" and can be pulled around by a rope that is threaded through the front.

Hullo everyone!

Sorry I'm late, but my boss is back and I have lots and lots of catch up work to do!

I went swimming with Becky on Saturday and had a great time, even though I ripped a hole in my foot from my friend's pool. It hasn't been resurfaced and certain parts of the steps are really rough. I fell off my floatie and landed hard on the steps underwater. Next thing I know, I see blood! Ewwww! It looked worse than it was though and today I could finally wear socks again! LOL!

Yesterday I finally made it up to see my friend Merijo in Homestead and spent a lovely few hours catching up and singing karaoke on her machine. :)

She has a cat though, so I am still sniffling and itchy-eyed today. I can't believe that I am still allergic to cats even after all my years spent working with them at the vet's office. It's a tragedy to me since I like cats but I can't snuggle with them. Maybe that is why I am more of a dog person! *grin*

Breakfast is ready!

I honey baked a ham last night and cut up thick slices. I fried some of them and left some as is and put them all on a platter for breakfast sandwiches. There are 3 skillets full of scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, mushrooms and green peppers on the stove, along with OT's hash browns. 7 platters of bacon and sausage are already on the table next to the basket of buttermilk biscuits, Cuban rolls and bagels. Coffee is brewed and juices are chilled. ENJOY!

Ack! Well, we're back. No drivers' licenses for us. Somehow I don't think the 911 hijackers had such a tough time of it. Let me just get this out of my system: I HATE MARYLAND! I hate it with every fiber of my being, the depth of my hatred knows no bounds. grrrrrrrr.

We didn't have the right "papers", aparently. The drivers' license is only the most easily faked form of ID and somehow it is put on this great, sacred pedestal. Bullllloney! I provided, in addition to my AZ license and social security card, two forms of ID with pictures, signatures, date of birth- the works. Both of which required more "ID" to obtain than a stupid drivers' license. One even has my fingerprints encrypted on it for heavens' sake! Nope. Not good enough. They want the birth certificate.

To top it off, not only did I not sufficiently prove I'm alive, we didn't have adequate "proof of residence". We had a copy of our titles to our vehicles (with our address) in envelopes with our address, we had checks (with our addresses), I had a voter card (with my address). Nope, they want bills- morgage, credit cards (mastercard as ID? Hah!).

I just want to know how illegals manage to get licenses. Maybe I'll just refuse to speak English next time I go in. You quiero una licencia, por favor. No, no tengo papels, pero estoy aqui y no hablo Ingles tan deme una licencia. Viva diversidad!

Tell me about it! Becky freaked out at first but when she saw I was still laughing, she calmed down.

Your chicks arrive today, don't they? I can't wait to see them.

My stomach is growling already!

You could always drive across the border and get your license in Virginia like they did. Our Attorney General (and next great Governor) has been trying to do something about that.

I ripped my knee up at Kings Dominion a couple of years ago. Came flying off of a waterslide, flipped and slammed on the bottom of the pool.

It was just a surface wound, but it looked pretty bad, especially since I had to walk to the first aid station.

That looks cool! - I might make it solid on two sides and then orient it where you place it to block more sun and wind, but it'll do! - and the little boxes in the top are small enough that they might be warm, especially if there were just wire between the two birds, so they can share heat.... is there a way to close off part of the front opening of the nest boxes? Both for warmth and wind, and because it seems like the eggs might roll out!

Yes, the chicks are supposed to arrive today...we'll see!

Also, our new library opened here in Tulsa this weekend...I'm thinking of taking the Jedis to see it today!

Or we could just keep what we have (my AZ dl doesn't expire until 2038). But now that we are "residents" thanks to Big'ol retiring from the Army we have 60 days to get MD licenses. I imagine dmv will jerk us around for the entire 60 days and then we'll be 'illegal' thanks to some dimwitted state employee. (our gal today was about a 5watt bulb)
