Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

G'nad, another double afficiando? Youa are obviously a discriminating gentleman.
Good for birds (bobwhite quail) as well, simply substitute 8's and 7 1/2's. But for waterfowl, I must confess to being partial to the pump.

Not so much an afficianado, as well acquainted and appreciative... also love O/Us... never could afford one though... love the way they swing... could call on the English stock...
I'd never be able to bring myself to risk usin' a double for waterfowl... the potential for loss or damage is too great... I got an 870 SP Mag, 3 1/2" 24" bbl, and a rifled 20" bbl for deer... I've killed more critters than small pox with it...

Hello, you guys.
I like an OU, also, for the 2 chokes at once, the looks, and the balance some of them have. I've got an old SKB that I got used a couple years ago...most shotguns I can't see over the barrel, I think the comb? is too low for my face, but the SKB's and Mossbergs (for some reason) fit me fine. Although I was once told that at my level of shooting (which isn't that great), it doesn't matter whether the thing fits me or not.
But I believe a 12 ga. auto doesn't kick anymore than a 20 ga. OU, which is why I thought a 12 ga. auto might work for my daughter, tho its length and weight could be a problem as she is only 5'3. She has been somewhat athletic, tho, and is fairly strong. Why do you guys like the English stock?
g'nad, I went in the woods a couple mornngs with my .270, but did not kill anything, saw a few does only, and they were fairly close, but not shootable for me because of the thick stuff they kept behind. But it felt good to be out there, watching the morning happen, even so. Now that deer season is over (for me), I am all fired up. But I couldn't give it any time this year.
