The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I have double wide feet, and no one carries them locally.

You have to import your wide feet?

I think the point is, she expected someone to carry them.

It was pretty pathetic. I was sorry I stayed home to watch it.

Heh.... I loved the Bob Newhart show. His little worried expressions remind me of my Dad.

The original Bob Newhart Show was about a psychiatrist named Bob in New York.

Okay, I've seen this twice now. They were based in Chicago. (but you're right about him being two different characters)

I liked it! I watched it from a bar with a big screen TV.

My turn to butt in. (Last one, I really do have to get out the door here.) He was actually in Chicago, not NY.

You are right... (except the part about Chicago that Corin corrected)

The details for me are foggy.... probably because we were playing the drinking game.

Duh, you're right. That's what I get for looking up stuff on the second show but not the first show...

But while we're talking about weird crossovers between shows, my all time favorite is still St. Elsewhere.

I believe it was the actor that played Mr. Carlin on the Bob Newhart show. (He was on the show, just maybe not this particular character). But he thought he was Mary Richards (Mary Tyler Moore).

Betty White had a recurring guest role as a military officer (I forget which branch). She was visiting in the hospital. This guy stops her in the hall.

"Sue Anne? Sue Anne Nivens?"

Betty White: "I'm afraid you have me mistaken with someone else."

It was classic.

Also, the series finale of St. Elsewhere was wild.

I watched it from a bar with a big screen TV.

That's what the Mrs. and I did with the Bush I Inaugural Parade.

She was five months pregnant with Jr., so we were just going to several receptions that morning and going to wander through the Congressional offices. But we ended up with prime tickets for the swearing in. After that, since she was tired (and since we were going to the ball that night) we went to Bullfeathers and sat at the bar and watched the parade on TV.

But wait... you couldn't play the drinking game on the second show, because his character's name was "Dick", not "Bob"!

Unless you had another drinking game....!

Seems that we wouldn't get very drunk playing "Hi Bob!" on the second show.

We mostly watched the first one. I don't think the second one came out till that phase was over.

The second one ran from 1982 to 1990. They never did say "Bob" on it very much... but there was a funny bit they did, where one of the regular characters would get mad at Dick and put emphasis on his name, as in, "If that's the way you want it... Dick!

Well, I thought it was funny.

Okay, I'm going home now...even if people there are whiney.

(and I'm picking up the three-year-old on the way home)

I have never seen Raisin' Arizona, though I love both Nicholas Cage and Holly Hunter.! I guess I'll have to add it to my Netflix Queue!
