The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Reminds me of that old Moustrap game that never really worked. :)

this has been one busy dwarf today...
To: Overtaxed
606 takes before it worked.
To: Wneighbor
Here you go! These are the Haiti "Retro" style
Cool, huh?
To: Overtaxed
We played Mousetrap as a drinking game in college.

And you are as repentant as those two sisters were ;~D

That is rough. I know you will, but you can't kick yourself for not valuing every little thing at the time.I know. As far as I knew, I had thirty years or so to go! And they took up space. But I still wish I had kept SOME. But as they say, "if wishes were horses then beggars would ride"...it's too late now!
At least I have the memory of her writing to me so much. All through basic training, she wrote me EVERY SINGLE DAY. Other girls would get a few letters a week during mail call...I got one every weekday - two on Monday, actually, since they held our Saturday mail. What a great mom!

I wish Birkies worked for me! They are so classic...I really like the way they look, even the crazy ones!
Unfortunately I have very flat (COMPLETELY flat), somewhat narrow feet...I can't even walk in the things! Someone needs to invent Birkies for flat-footed types. ;-)
To: RosieCotton
What a great mom! Indeed. I feel with you Rosie!
It is funny.... I am sure my mom wrote me once in awhile when I was in school, but I don't remember them... I remember calling home a lot.... The same impulse that still makes me want to pick up the phone and call her when anything at all happens.... I guess now I just come here and tell you all instead!
The thing I remember, but didn't keep, were my Dad's letters. They were always in a numbered list, like a talking points memo:
1. Hope your check ride went well
2. Here's some money
3. Study hard
4. See you in two weeks.
The Dad.
Cracks me up.

We pretty much took it apart after we couldn't get it to work. :)

this has been one busy dwarf today... It seems to be a busy time for all our dwarves....
To: HairOfTheDog
I remember calling home a lot.... Yeah...did that, too. And since I was clear overseas...well, let's just say that if I'd called about half as much as I did, I'd be rich!
I'd say it was worth it, though.
It's funny...there's a phone booth in the hall here at the college. Not really a booth, even...just a sort of alcove with the phone and a little bench to sit on. When I took a job related class up here a few years ago, I called Mom during lunch a few times. Maybe it's because that's the ONLY thing I've ever used that phone for, but I've walked past it a few times since I started working here and thought "I should call Mom" for just a sec before remembering. Doesn't happen often at home anymore, though it did at first.
To: RosieCotton
Doesn't happen often at home anymore, though it did at first. I love it when it still happens. For a moment, she is back.

Wow! That commercial is just AWESOME!
By the way, Clare wants to know from where that wave file came that you posted to Corin yesterday. The one about 'panties on your head'.
To: Overtaxed
We pretty much figured out a way to turn everything into a drinking game somehow....
Ever heard of "Hi Bob?" Watch the old Bob Newhart show... had to take a drink everytime someone said "Hi Bob".
To: Wneighbor
Yikes! I didn't mean to add all that text, but the links seem to work OK.
