Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Problem is that I hafta get them on-line! OHHH I do a lot of my shopping on-line. I don't like to GO shopping for much of anything. Although, I do make a hobby out of thrift stores from time to time. I absolutely hate to shop for clothing in any method. But, shoes is not in that category.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Oh my. I don't have an appropriate patriotic follow-up except some different red ones. The 2 pairs of blue are not as cool. I have to get off-line now. It's going to take me longer to get dressed since I have to have a shoe-fest.

I would be nervous about sticking pets in cargoShe's been from LA to Boston in cargo and then Boston to Biloxi in cargo (my cousin moved from LA to Biloxi and sent her to her brother in Boston during the move.) She was going to send her from Biloxi to RDU by cargo, but they wanted too much money for it ("For that price they should give her a seat and serve her peanuts!") so she had her husband drive her all the way up here in a nor'easter. :)

I'm inspired by the Hobbit Hole Footwear Fashion Patrol (HHFFP) and by your hippy birkies. I love Birkies! But, can't afford them. :-(
So, with HHFFP and SuzyQ in mind, coupled with my experiences of dumocrats talking to me yesterday because they think I look like one of them (is this a bad thing? maybe i need to call oprah for a makeover - no, does hannity do make-overs?) Anyway, I'm going in my regular hippy clothing. I should take a tape recorder so I could record the dummies talking to me HUH? Ya'll would like that. I think in honor and respect for 2J today perhaps I should leave off the G.R.I.T.S. veneer once today and tell them to .......... well, you know.

They're still going strong!Good hiking boots last a long time!
I now own and *still* wear my Mother's hiking boots that she wore when she climbed Mt. Rainier in 1962!

She is the second one sitting going up the hill! I love how basic their equipment was then...
As an aside, their guides there (standing) are the Whitaker and Unsoeld that later were either the first or among the first to climb Mount Everest.
They look a little rough, but I love these boots!

Now THAT'S a cool footwear story! Thank you for sharing this - and the pics!
Mine haven't been up Mt. Ranier or any other big mountains...but they HAVE been to at least three countries...can't remember if I brought them to Italy or not!

WOW!!!
What an inspiration!

Thanks for liking the story! They are inspirational Ruthy! - I get a lot more done when I am wearing them than when I am not!
To: RosieCotton
Your boots can be part of your history, if you keep them!
Zulu chewed the back top of the boot closest when she was a puppy. She chewed *one* of every pair of shoes I owned at the time.

Zulu chewed the back top of the boot closest when she was a puppy. She chewed *one* of every pair of shoes I owned at the time. Yeah...Fiona chewed two of my penny loafers...one of each pair. I still have them and wear them, though. For now, it's kind of annoying, but if I were ever to lose her...
I know things aren't everything, but they do help us to feel connected. I had a rough evening yesterday...was sorting through some of my stuff in the basement and came across a box of things I've hardly looked at since Germany - papers, mostly. I had sorted out all the letters when I was moving to my house, though, and discarded pretty much all of them. There were DOZENS of letters from Mom...even when I couldn't find time to write her, she wrote to me all the time, every day sometimes. Most of the letters were just little notes, little things about her day, the cute things the kids had done...nothing "important". And I guess at the time, they didn't seem like that big of a deal. I had no idea there would be a time coming up so soon when every word Mom every said or wrote would be precious to me...and so those letters were lost.
I could kick myself.
To: RosieCotton
That is rough. I know you will, but you can't kick yourself for not valuing every little thing at the time. I kept a lot, but discarded or sold a lot too when we were cleaning out Mom's things. Things I sometimes wonder about or wish I had.
What is it about dogs and only choosing one of each pair of shoe, so all the shoes are wrecked?

Great pictures. Who was your camera operator?
I don't know what kind of camera you have, but if it has a zoom lens, you need both wide-angle and closeup shots of every scene so you can use the one that works best.
What brand of camera do you have, and what resolution are you using?
You were on the scene, and upheld the honor of FR and The Shire. Thanks.

Yep, that is so cool. Watched it a couple times already. Reminds me of the Rube Goldberg drawings I used to look at when I was young.
