The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Okay, I'm caught up. And now I'm leaving again.

Luke wants the computer. I think he's working on research paper...

I avoid barbecue discussions! I let Rose handle those.

I hope Jr. watched X-Men in English before switching to French... have you managed to see it yet?

Thanks. It looks reasonably normal, except the compass rose is magnetic only!

Jr. is now watching X-Men in French

We got to see an episode of Hawaii Five-O in French once. I forgot what "Book 'em, Danno!" was in French.

Hello all. Just got in from another afternoon of playing with plants. Finally went to buy my tomatoes and peppers. I was going to get 2 of each. But, got 4 tomatoes. Only 2 peppers but one of them had 2 plants in the pot. (gee, did i really do that) And 2 of the tomatoes have 2 plants in them. 1 has 4 plants in it. Ummmm. did i ever mention to ya'll that i'm a fool for cheap or bargains or getting something for free?

So, now, I don't even begin to have enough bed space torn up to put all that in. I got out the 2 peppers that were in the same thing and 3 of the tomatoes. Also, some radishes and portulaca.

A cool thing in church this morning. They always give out carnations or single roses or corsages to the moms. But, this year they gave each of us a live plant. I smiled all through the sermon! :-) It's a celosia. But, one would look so lonely in my yard, so I also bought another 6 pack of those while I was at the store.

I'm tired now.

Actually, Sam, his "Tailchaser's Song" couldn't have been more than 300 pages, but that was a first effort, so it doesn't count.

Wow, this keeps getting better. If the end lives up to the first 450 pages...

I should clear that up. I prefer my beef well done. But having it medium doesn't make me ill. And I can even "enjoy" it rare when the social situation requires it.

I hope you enjoyed a day old steak anyway. Those folks on the Texas thread just didn't care to eat.

I'm tired now.

Me too! - I just got in from working Bay.... really wanted a nap more than a workout, but I can't skip it if he is gonna get in shape. My saddle hadn't been on him all winter so it took a while to get it put back together and the pads adjusted... I lunged him a bit and then rode him around the pasture half an hour or so while the pony buzzed us and otherwise disrupted. They both got a workout this way! My ankles get tired, and my knees! - Oh it stinks to lose our youth! ;~D

Hehehe...I have over 12 each of Red Brandywine and some kind of cherry tomato that are potted up and ready to be put in the garden. I have several more that I need to find something to do with.

You can get a lot of plants from a package of seeds.

Well, as we've all gotten out this weekend doing seasonal things it seems that a lot of us are having that thought. LOL

except Jen, who has new books from her 5 hour drive.

Yes, you DO get quite a lot of plants from a package of seeds. That's why I started going ahead and buying plantlets for my tomatoes and peppers. Otherwise, I really get carried away.

Remember I told you a good while back about that spot in my yard where nothing will grow? I was going to plant something unkillable there? Well, I thought catnip was unkillable. But, it was out there for a week. And today I went ahead and dug it out because it wouldn't have been alive tomorrow. I put the portulaca out there. It's unkillable isn't it? I just can't figure out what the deal is with this spot.

Yes, Jen probably doesn't ache from her new books, and at 21, she probably doesn't even ache from that 5 hour drive!

I just heard thunder.

What's portulaca?

Did you ever get a soil sample to the Ag extension people?

Hi, Wn, Happy Mother's Day.

I just finished cooking Jeanne a dinner of sauted venison and peppers, which she had requested.

Well, you are very adventurous, car racing and storm chasing. I am way to much of a hobbit to chase storms, the reason I understand weather, is so I can keep out of its way, not follow it. But a thunderhead is dangerous on the water, a line of them more so. It's my responsibility to keep my people safe.

Actually, I love weather, and could probably have a good time storm chasing, it sounds exciting and fun.

Not ache, no, but I'm in "Whoa" mode from the one book.

Anyway I'm turning off my computer now. See you after work tomorrow (ugh...)
