The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Hey!! Have you been lurking in MY house?

Well, I tell you what, just consider this your house in Texas. If yours is like that, you'll feel right at home here. :-)

Thanks Ruthy, I was waiting for someone to show up. But, now you're gone. Is your mother okay?

The Eagles

I was confoozed; didn't recognize any of them. Where's Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and the guy who sang "Smuggler's Blues"?

Good luck with it!! If you need any more info, just let me know. SSQ could answer any questions you might have when he gets home in a couple of hours.

What has been neat the last 5 times we refinanced was that they came to our house for us to sign all the papers! We didn't have to do anything but make sure the dining room table was cleared of the usual Physical Science stuff!

It should be sorted the other way 'round starting at the top and progressing down... but I think that might be hard to do.

Suzi, are you sure that those thunderstorms are not moving from southwest to northeast?

Now that would be a treat. I submitted to 2 companies. I was thinking of doing a 3rd... just for 3rd times the charm. But, somebody rang my doorbell. And when that was done I just came back here.

If yours is like that, you'll feel right at home here. :-)

Exceptin I bet your yard is a lot purdier than mine. I'm not a big gardener, though I have really enjoyed all the bulbs I put in last fall. We've got lots of tulips, daffodils and blue spikes. And I think that the day lily that my cousin gave me, and that I brought back on the plane from MS last year, is coming up. It is a small, orange double lily that had come from my Granny's old yard in my hometown.

We had a lawn vacuum for awhile, it came with the house, a "billy goat." It worked great on the driveway, much less good on the lawn. I managed to give the thing away last year. I'd have probably kept it if it wasn't falling apart from age, but I figure it was better than a rake, but less good than a blower.

40 pines that we had were destroyed by Andrew, so at least needles aren't a problem anymore, just leaves now.

Suzi, are you sure that those thunderstorms ....

Wow, when I got back here and read what you said about the thunderstorms I almost cried. We used to watch them from the front yard at the old house. They built way up in the north west and moved to us. It was incredible. The colors in the sky and on the new spring growth were breathtaking. We lived sort of on a mesa area and could see for miles to the north/northwest. Sometimes we'd watch them coming for a large part of a day, and sometimes it would be just minutes before they were on us. Nothing like that up here. You can't see 'em or hear 'em very well.

Yep, we'd be sitting on top of the hill looking East, and the sky would get REAL dark over Escatawpa and Pascagoula, then head WEST toward us in Gautier. We'd see the rain coming down in sheets as it came West down I-10, then it would hit us a couple of minutes later.I never thought about the direction of the storms then, but it is strange now that I do think about it. I guess it was just one of those po-up thundershowers that come off the Gulf in the summertime.

Those are the best plants!!! My grama has been in very bad health for a few months. It has been one thing that the Hobbit Hole has really helped me to deal with - because when I'm home and down, I can always come here and chat and cheer up - but, right now I have some gorgeous irises blooming in my front yard that remind me so much of Grama. When we bought the old house she bought me 4 of some special iris tubers. They multiplied a lot. When I moved up here I dug them up and replanted them. There's a passel of 'em now. I've got 'em 3 different places in the yard here. And when I see them they almost bring a tear because they remind me so much of Grama.

You make me think of my Grandma's lilies!

My Grandma had old lilies in a flower bed at the beach house... When we first moved there I was always yelling at the guys when they weed-wacked: "DON'T WRECK GRANDMA'S LILLIES!" (They never saw a plant standing that they didn't want to wack). They knocked them down every time. But they always came back.
