The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I've seen it many times, but I STILL can't handle the part where the daughter who marries the Russian is abandoned. (I know her name, but can't spell it, so I won't try. ;-)

I watched the Craig Kilborn show last night.... Elrond... er Agent Smith.... er Hugo Weaving was on! He was coming on to push the Matrix movie, but some people in the audience yelled "Yeah Elrond!" - He smiled at that. Craig was a little off in the interview, but I could tell Hugo was a pretty bright guy.

But no, that's the great part. The recognition of redemption in the end. Hair can probably quote it but Tevye says something like "tell your sister we'll be in Chicago"...or something like that.

Tevye's whole world crashes around him. And in the end he sees that the love he has for his daughters rises above all of that.

I can see very well what you've been "working on", Master Dwarf! There are still strips of hash browns stuck in your beard! LOL!

I miss g'nad too!

All's well that ends well, but it's still not easy to watch that part!

Chava. [pronounced "Hava"]

Yeah.. I know. It is about the most heartbreaking scene ever. Topol, the actor the plays Tevye talks on the DVD commentary that in the stage version, his own daughter played Chava, and that it broke his heart and hers every night to talk to her that way, and that is what he was trying to remember when he was acting it for the movie.

One of my favorite movies. Man.... The last half is a heartbreak.

It has been no less than 10 years since I've seen it. I bought the DVD and have watched 20 minutes here and there for a few days.

Then, Glen walks in yesterday as I am trying to watch a couple more minutes and starts asking question after question about the movie, although he swears he cannot stand musicals and would rather die a miserable death than sit through one. Anyway, I go back to the part where Tevye sings If I Were A Rich Man and Glen is loving it.

Needless to say, I just started the whole movie over and we made it to just past the bar scene (I love how Lazar & Tevye dance there! HA!) when the kids intruded and I had to stop the DVD again.

Corin considers the Book of Smeagol to be apocryphal.
