Well, it isn't Tevye that first volunteers the information.... Golde the mother does, and Tseitel calls out to them where they will be. But Tevye does whisper "And God be with you".... Which Tseitel also repeats....

I love it. My Dad would be the same way, and just as incapable of saying the emotional thing. I have risked his banishment before.
