Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I still have to make the decision. If they offer the whole "relocation package" (I find out on Wednesday) and if I decide to take it, I won't move until July or August.

Good morning sleepyheads! Smeagol is up already...
Ksen - I just put my check in the the mail. You should have it by the end of the week. I think it will take 3 to 4 days for it to get there.

Thanks carton, I'll be looking for it.
I'll post an update this weekend as to the status of the funds needed to reserve the "castle."

I guess the only other thing I will need is the exact week we are going to want. Will people be wanting to stay after Entmoot is over, or come before it starts?
The options are either 1/6/04-1/12/04 (Tue-Mon), 1/7/04-1/13/04 (Wed-Tues), 1/8/04-1/14/04 (Thurs-Wed), or 1/9/04-1/15/04 (Fri-Thurs).
I'll need to know for when I put the deposit down.

The 1/8/04-1/14/04 works best for me... since I will not miss any classes during that time. But, since I'm only coming for a weekend, I will yield to those who are staying for the week.

I guess the only other thing I will need is the exact week we are going to want. Jr. and I will arrive sometime on Friday morning. We'll leave here after school on Thursday and drive most of the night (I'll stop to nap).
We'll leave there on Sunday morning. So for us it's just Friday and Saturday nights.

Good morning! Happy Monday!
Had a crazy weekend. Friday nights we go to a bluegrass / general acoustic music jam in NH, about twenty minutes away. It sometimes runs pretty late, as in into the wee hours. This Friday, I went with my sister, my brother, and my brother's friend. I took my brother's friend home at about eleven and then came back and we stayed until close to two. Went out to leave...and my little Corolla wouldn't start. Just made a clicking noise. I went back in and recruited people to come check...as it was pretty much the whole gang came out to look. Most of 'em are pretty handy with mechanical stuff (mostly farmers and such who work on their own equipment), so I was hopeful they'd find the problem. I had a flashlight, and they all took turns tapping here and looking there, pushed the car around some, checked connections...couldn't find anything.
We got a ride back to town, and were up until at least three trying to find places for everyone to sleep...usually I drop my brother off, but I didn't want to make the poor guy who gave us a ride drive all over the place. I set my alarm for six so I could call and see if Dad would let me borrow the van in the morning...he had to work, so in order to get it I had to get in touch with him before that. Spent most of the morning trying to get in touch with SOME mechanic, but no one seemed to be around. We finally went back to where the car was parked to try AGAIN to get it started...the end of it all was that the people who lived nearby were able to suggest a mechanic who lived just up the road and had his own tow truck. He came and got the car - pretty much the whole neighborhood gathered to watch the procedure. Brandy new tow truck...it WAS kinda neat. Heartbreaking, though...my car has NEVER had a problem, and watching it being dragged helpless onto the back of a truck was just sad!
He ended up replacing a worn contact in the starter, and I got it back that very afternoon - could have been way, way worse! And I guess I can't complain too much...as I said, this is the first problem I've ever had with the car. I was so happy to get him back so quickly, though! I missed it!
To: RosieCotton
Mornin' Rosie. Glad your car is back. Car trouble sux.
Saw your mandolin guy on tv the other day. The gym had the "Great American Classics" channel on one of the tvs Saturday. Can't remember the name of the song, but in the video they were in a movie theater.
I liked the music.
To: Corin Stormhands
That song's called "Speak", I think. I don't understand music videos, though. I guess you aren't supposed to, but some are way bizarre!
To: RosieCotton
I didn't understand it, but it was cool in a weird sort of way. Of course I'm halfway through watching Moulin Rouge which is also cool in a weird sort of way.
To: Corin Stormhands
I only saw it once...but I liked the end part of the video, when he follows that guy down the street playing mandolin in his face.
Why he does that, I dunno!
To: Corin Stormhands
The first 30 minutes of Moulin Rouge are horrible. Worse than horrible. Once Nicole Kidman is standing on the elephant's head and singing and Ian McGregor joins her... from that point on... the movie is quite good. I liked it in fact.
I saw Two Weeks Notice on Saturday. It's okay, but Hugh Grant cracks me up. No one can deliver boring lines like he does. He absolutely makes me laugh out loud.
I think I'm going to have to buy this one. And the same with About A Boy... again... it's an okay movie, but Hugh Grant is magic.
