The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

OT: morning, second cup of coffee here, checking posts, and getting fired up (sorta) to take Samantha for her constitutional. Got a good bit of planting done yesterday. Moved a couple of roseofsharons; iris are really appreciating the newly acquired sunshine; lots of us in this area are converting from shade to sun beds.

WN: know the general area, bout 10 years ago worked on the route 5 (east side of lake) realignment, later on the new toll bridge that is at Lake Ozark. Don't actually go to the Lake of Ozarks area unless it's work related but it is very nice.

I'll let you know my reaction to movie and trailer this evening. Right now I'm concentrating on church so as not to get too excited. :)

Good morning. Getting ready for church. It's still muggy here like we might have more storms today.

I still have vehicle problems. The pickup needs a high pressure hose for the power steering. We were fixing it yesterday evening. Ran to the local auto parts store only to find out its a dealer part. Great. A hose. And I have to go to the dealer.

So, we left the hose off and we're going to be driving the old Chevy today and tomorrow, which is cool with me but it needs a new valve cover gasket and smokes more than any Hobbit. Bike is also awaiting a new primary cover gasket. The guy that I like to work on it is supposed to come up from the Waco area in the next couple of weeks and do that for me. I'd rather him do it than somebody I don't know up here. So, jiminy, this is just not my month for vehicles.

OT - I didn't know we were supposed to nuke or boil eggshells. Will Salmonella get on the veggies? I always just throw 'em on there.

Good Morning! Think I'll get the marigolds and peppers in the ground today and maybe get my squash and melons planted...maybe. :) I'm kind of sore from yesterday.

I've got a chicken for barbecuing later on.

I've only actually been to that area once. But the lady I know moved down here years ago and stayed for about 10 years. She was a family friend of my ex-husband's and so we became good friends. Man, she knew more about gardening just in a rambling conversation than I could write if I wrote everything I know. And, her yard and garden!!! WHOA!!!

We still exchange long newsy letters at Christmas every year and I always look forward to hearing from her. Just wish I could hang out with her and garden for about a year now that both kids will be gone.

To tell you the truth, I just throw them out there myself but I've read that in the "compost pile instructions" that came with my composter. :)

I went to bed and had a really long think session last night. Yes, it was probably a strain but I did. I've really concluded that I might should just look for work back home and pack up and move back. I still have to think some more. And I've got 3 weeks off so I can do some heavy pondering but...........

if i do that, i might not can make entmoot.

Well, I hadn't thought about it. I never knew why we weren't supposed to put dog and cat poop out there either till you just said it. I just knew not to use those. Although, I must admit, when the cats came in the house, the little box got dumped out beside the compost heap. But, I just had a pile in the back corner of the property and what is the logical place to dump the catbox? Dogs do their own thing. Since I've most always live in the country I just let 'em go where they want. Smeagol is a little dog and she doesn't make big piles, I don't go walking in the spot she has designated as "that area."

Interesting to find out the reason for why we aren't supposed to put that stuff on there. I guess if I had needed to scoop the puppy poop I probably would have taken pretty much the same action as the cat box and just placed it beside the compost area.

No, and that aggevates me to no end. I understand from being in engineering why companies make designs so that the customer has to buy from the dealer. AND THAT REASON IS SO THEY CAN RIP PEOPLE OFF WITH HIGH PRICES!!!

Why don't you just move to Entmoot! - Solves both problems!

Hullo! - Good morning!

Well my sister's cats like to "go" in my garden. So far no one has gotten sick. I dump cat poop in the number 4 "bulky items" bin at the local recycling place.

Oh great! Another "to move or not to move" decision! :)

Yes, I'm pondering. A lot of it has to do with Myranda's graduation. I took this job so I could spend a lot of time with her. Working in engineering I was always working a lot of overtime and weekends and missing out on her a lot. Here, I've been able to really spend some good time with her. Now, she graduates in 27 days.

And I have been financially challenged here. I made a lot more money in industry. I have had to learn to budget on 75% of what I used to make and I've had to add in a house payment and much higher utilities. Yesterday, I got a notice that my mortgage payment is going up $130/month starting with the next payment. I budgeted until almost midnight last night. It just doesn't work. And the college doesn't allow me to work a side job. They don't pay like industry, they don't let me work on the side, I have much higher bills here than at home so it just isn't making any sense right now to stay here.
