The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

They were thrilled! My sister especially, since she knew I had purchased a ticket for Bill, but didn't know I got her one, too!

I saw Cherish the Ladies last time they were up this way. Really enjoyed their performance, for the most part. Their singer's voice is absolutely gorgeous!

We may get to see Patrick Street in March, too - they're playing only an hour away from here. Kevin Burke on fiddle! I reallllly hope we make that one.

I don't care much about pay or advancement, though maybe I should.

I worked for the state for a while. Had to quit because after paying 6% into the retirement fund (mandatory), limited promotion opportunities, and low raises, I couldn't afford to work there anymore.

Besides...I got bored

Dad did this a long while back - six of us each paid seven bucks or whatever it was for our own CD so we could get six CDs for half price. Actually I paid for two, but only half price for each. If that makes sense. But we ordered them at the beginning of that sale, so they came months ago, or in any case many weeks ago. Still waiting for some?

I think may favorite bits of music from TTT were the strings whenever the storyline was at Rohan.

But who'd have thunk I'd have to make a choice?!

Hi Rosie! It's great to hear from you; I was a little concerned since we hadn't heard anything from you during the holidays!

What a delightful dilemma to be in; a choice of two jobs!! It sounds like the college job may be the best, even if it is less money. I'm sure you'd hate missing out on the fun things you do with your family, the music, etc. I'm still praying for you; this time to make the best choice for YOU!

I got my brother and sister tickets to a Lunasa concert for Christmas!

Is that the concert in Lebanon in February? I thought about it, but that's too long a drive for the dead of winter for me! We're about 2 1/2 hrs. south of Lebanon, and even in good weather, I'd be loathe to drive that far for a concert. Maybe they'll come a little bit closer to Boston next time; that would be just right.

Thanks for the great review, Kevin! I felt the very same way about Faramir as you did! GMTA, huh? I haven't made it to the second viewing yet. Clare and I hope to see it again this weekend!

I just peel the paper back slowly, knowing at any second it is going to blow up!

A few weeks ago while the Mrs. was dealing with stuff for her dad, I was cooking for the boys. I got out a can of biscuits and was expecting to have to put the spoon in to pop 'em open, but they were the kind that popped when you just kept peeling the paper. I was so startled I dropped them on the floor...

Hullo! We are back and catching up.

The other thing is that two of my brothers, my sister and I want to start playing real gigs this year. That may not earn much, but it would be something - and I couldn't do that with an evening job.

There you go , then! I had wondered if y'all were going to try that. That would be the mitigating factor in your job decision. This way, you get a job that gives you time off to do some practice, and some gigs, both in the evenings and during holidays!

Wooohooo!!!! Yay for Rosie!!!!

Here's a thought: Can you take classes for free at the college if you're an employee? (would you want to?)

Just tryin' to make things more complicated for ya...;-)

Thanks for your thoughts! I have come to agree with pretty much all of them (I didn't on the first viewing!)

I still think it was Ian McKellan imersonating Christopher Lee's voice, though! ;) I guess I will have to view it again to make sure!

LOL!! I haven't seen the 'automatic can' yet. I'd probably be startled as well! I don't use the canned stuff unless it is cinnamon rolls. I can make homemade biscuits faster than bothering with the can. Of course I don't roll them out and cut them; it's drop biscuits for me! Hey they taste the same and my family could not care LESS what they look like!

No. I got what was coming to me. :) I was just wondering if you took advantage of the sale.

That's the one! We're a little over an hour north of there. I'm still going to be praying for good weather, but it's a much shorter drive for us.

They're playing in Somerville, MA the next night. Is that close to you?

Yes - tuition is free for employees. So, yeah...that's another one of their benefits.
