The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Some of the ensemble was more interesting than others... the Toad character. Now there was a stupid mutation. I think Gandalf and Picard were pretty cool for old guys, too. But aren't they getting a little typecast?

No, I don't know why people get dogs they don't want in their lives.

The Toad was always a lame character... the movie really improved on him, actually.

As for typecasting, well... hard to think of two characters more diametrically opposed than Gandalf and Magneto. When I think of them, it's hard for me to remember they were played by the same actor.

Picard, though, was always the fan favorite to portray Prof. X.

No, they're just both "old guys with weird powers and a cool voice". That's typecasting.

And I like Picard in there, it's just - just - I keep expecting him to say "Make it so" or "Engage!"

Well, you have a point.

I can't think of any other actor who could play the Professor, though.

Me either - eek - just had a vision of Sean Connery in a wheelchair.

What's up with the tagline?

Ben Kingsley (sp?) might have worked. Prof. X is supposed to be American though... unfortunately Billy Zane doesn't quite have enough age on him yet.

As for my tagline, it may make more sense backwards!

Erm....

Wow, almost 2000 words tonight. Maybe I will get rid of this block. As it is, trying to write is like trying to bicycle uphill; hard work, no fun, and ... ok, that's the only two ways they're similar.

A third way: you have to keep working at it to get anywhere.

Glad to hear you're block may be over, though!

"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" is on the Action Channel...

I'm back, but I'm trying to get work done...not too likely to happen.

My plans for the evening imploded when I walked in the door. Still managed to salvage a good bit of it. Had a good evening with Luke...Jr. did not go to dinner with us. Of course Luke threw up right in Chick-Fil-A, but it was just a one time barf...

There's lots going on here and I'm po'd with the family. Lots of reasons, no need to go into them.

But there's a need to schedule the reading of the Riot Act. I'm just not in a very literary mood this evening...

I could not be crass enough to suggest William Shatner, could I????

Did I do that???

I got home from work, and went to call up my web hosting control panel to figure out how to set up the email list, only to find out that the hosting company has gone out of business.

Don't you hate that? I've had three companies go out of business while I was writing for them. Last time it happened I was editing four websites with the same company. I haven't "recovered" from that yet and got my stuff going again. I'm workin' on it...slowly.

And I keep peddling and peddling and not getting anywhere!

Though I'm nearly done with the stage-setting stuff, and ready for the "by her bootstraps" section.

Unless I can count that Corin apparantly saw an elf-mate for me and didn't go up and ask if he was available to an elf in Texas.

You know I love ya WN. But I can't think of anyone for whom I would walk up to a strange elfy looking person (presumably male?) and say "are you available?"
