The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I wondered about PayPal too, but don't they get bothersome with HUGH transactions?

This will NOT involve any cut in pay I hope.To start off, the pay is about the same. After that I'll have quarterly reviews with up to 4% raises each quarter to the next pay grade (their "fast track" plan.) And after a year, up to another grade. They still haven't given me a copy of those pay scales.

I think checks would be better so that way I can just hold on to them until the time comes and then deposit them and I'll write the guy a check. That way if something happens, which I don't foresee happening if we go forward, all I have to do is tear your checks up instead of trying to get all your money back to you.
That and I don't have a verified PayPal account. ;^)

I don't know...I've never had any trouble, but the most I've ever dealt with was $50.

A tarp is a good idea! You tend to think of those things after a couple of hurricanes and ice storms. :)

Kimberly Locke did a great rendition of that song on
American Idol Tuesday night!
Doesn't matter a whit though since Clay should win the competition hands-down!

I'm sort of the George Hamilton type myself...tall, thin, tanned, wealthy...
Dang! I forgot y'all have seen my picture...Well, I'm TALL...

So what would hold a tarp up there? People around here weight it down with a brick. :) Wonder if you could use staples.

I actually have a massive "drab olive" tarp for when I shop got messed up and we had to cover it up. It would likely cover most of our roof!

Wonder if you could use staples. I wouldn't trust staples to be strong enough, but you could use them for re-enforcement. You should bolt it at the grommets, then you could staple around the edges.
Again, your key here is to make sure wind can't get under the tarp. If it's flat and secured down, it shouldn't be a problem...unless you get one of those windstorms that nothing will stop.
To: Corin Stormhands
Would staples ruin the patency of the roof? Allow water up under the shingles, after the tarp was down? I would think running rope to the ground and securing it that would...like a tent, would work?

Heavy duty staples (not talking office staples here) every five inches or so around the edge should keep out any wind. But bolting the grommets would be a good idea, too.

I am having a horrible time talking this morning! Perhaps I should eat!
