Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Are you proposing that someone...(like you and me?!?!) take them aside...I get Billy!!!!LOL! Somehow I don't think either you or I could make an impression. I was thinking someone older and wiser IN THE BUSINESS could give them the heads up!
BTW did you know that Billy Boyd will be in the next Russell Crowe movie? It is based on Patrick O'Brien book, "Master and Commander", about an British naval officer during the Napoleanic war. I just finished reading "The Golden Ocean", the first of O'Brien's novels. I hope to read more later, but I'm fixing to start painting the foyer, living room and dining room so it can be all done before our Mardi Gras party in late Jan. I'll be tied up with that and won't have much time for recreational reading!

For instance, watch Faramir's face when he is questioning Gollum/Smeagol: the actor did a good job (I think) of giving the impression of a mixture of fascination, confusion, fear, and disgust. This time, I could almost hear the wheels turning in Faramir's brain... "What is this creature? What has made it so wretched?" Very subtle. I remember Faramir's face when he was watching Smeagol/Gollum writhing in the cave talking to himself, wrestling between the two entities. I think seeing that struggle, then seeing Frodo go up on the wall in full view of the Nazgul convinced Faramir that the Ring was too powerful and evil to be allowed into Gondor. He saw the harm it had done to Gollum and Frodo, got the talking to by Sam, and he realized he wanted no part of it. I believe that's why the movie Faramir let Frodo go.

2JM: Back from the salt mines, eh? The snow was a bust here, not a flake but did get 2.5 minutes of "snow pellets" mid afternoon.
Having a Wednesday off is a funny work week, kind of like two mondays and two fridays. Oh well, next scheduled day off is Memorial Day.

WOW! That's one heck of a post! Many, many thanks to you for finding that one. I might print it up and give to a fellow Tolkien bud here at work who is still grumbling over the changes. He's a "My vision of Tolkien or no vision of Tolkien" kind of guy.

When Peter was editing the film he felt a song would be perfect as a finale in the third film, so I recorded it.In case this hasn't been said yet, when I first started reading this about Liv singing a song, I thought it was going to be Dude Looks Like a Lady in honor of Elrond. ;^)

Who me? It's back to the ol' grind today.
To: ecurbh
Thanks for the inciteful review... don't necessarily agree with everything, but it makes TTT more palatable... I don't mind a director takin' artistic license but....
still waitin' to see it a second time, hope to get that done soon...
Thanks again, for all the great info you've provided over the last two years...

Lutefisk, as I understand it, is to be enjoyed directly proportionate to the consumption of Aquavit beforehand.
To: g'nad
...don't you have a line to be standin' in?...I did all of that yesterday. We got up around 8:30am and put in FoTR. When FoTR was finished my daughter and I got ready to head out to the theatre.
We saw the 1:10pm show and as soon as the screen turned dark we were headed out and found my wife and sons waiting for us outside. So we trundled back in and waited for the staff to clean out the theatre we just vacated and all five of us saw the 4:30pm show.
After stopping to eat, we returned home about 9:00pm. We got the kids in bed and settled, and then we crashed. It was a very Tolkien-filled day.

I am going to let you in on a secret. Lutefisk is only something that we serve when new people are coming over, especially new girlfriends or boyfriends being introduced to the family for the first time. Real Norwegians don't actually eat it, we just like to watch newbies try.
Its just a bit of fun!
Hullo ALL! Good morning!

Waiting for your verdict!

Real Norwegians don't actually eat it, we just like to watch newbies try.My Mom eats it, but then she's only 1/4 Norwegian.
Good morning!

I believe that's why the movie Faramir let Frodo go.I agree completely! It's a different path from the book-Faramir, but ultimately he wound up at the same decision.
