Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Black eyed peas were simply for good luck. Not sure where the connection with that is, Maybe somewhere along the way, somebody who didn't like collards thought up the black eyed peas thing. Whatever! I'll be eating my 'Hoppin John' later on!

The blackeyed peas is for the "jingle" in your pocket and the collards are for a wad of bills. :)Would spinach do, you reckon? I can put some fresh spinach in the salad I was going to fix for dinner? Yeah, that's the ticket! Nice green leafy spinach will bring us lots of paper money in the New Year and the peas will bring that 'jingle' of coins in our pockets! See how easy it is to start a tradition? ;o)

Thanks Suzi!! I knew there was something I could do, something simple...yep, have quite a bit of the cayenne powder. Will have to do that tomorrow, it looks like. UGH! Hope its not too windy!
I am way way late on getting into the conversation about TTT...was curious to know what y'all thought about the changes with the Merry and Pippin storyline, the Ents, and Faramir?
I was genuinely shocked by how much Jackson changed the M&P line...am finding myself increasingly unhappy with the way the two characters are being played. Whenever I READ Pippin, the character I saw was cocky, bright, inquisitive, and all too hasty, as one other character would put it, but hardly without any sense of confusion of what was at stake in the mission they were on, despite the fact that they had become flotsam and jetsom in the story. The scene that shocked me the most was Pippin telling Merry that maybe it was best if they did go back to the Shire. Merry got to have a nice little pep talk and character moment, but seems Merry was given more of Book Pippin's characteristics, while Pippin took on a rather clueless persona. Not something I am real happy about.
I thought the ents were very good, but am not real comfortable with the changes that were made there, although it really wasnt too far off the mark.
Faramir I LOVED!!! He was everything I would expect a captain of soldiers in the midst of guerilla warfare would be. I think the way Tolkien writes it is fairly misleading, in that Faramir gets to sit and 'philosophize' with Frodo, and play word-games, and generally come across as a 'good lad.' That would play so badly in a movie!!!
well, I guess thats enough for starters. Just curious to know if others thought the same as I did....

You're off the list. :(
To: Overtaxed
Oh, don't frown overtaxed!!! :/!!! I was just wondering if it was an Inside Joke that I missed out on...and trying to remember how I got there in the first place.
Alkhin offers Overtaxed some fresh lembas and mirovir...don't wish you to be unhappy!
To: Alkhin
As I recall in the argument where the official ElfBash! icon debuted, you were on the elfbashers' side of the argument.
To: Alkhin
Alkhin offers Overtaxed some fresh lembas and mirovirThat wouldn't happen to be sour mash mirovir, would it?
To: Overtaxed
Dunno...purloined it when I was passing through Lorien...Alkhin is a rogue elf in the story I am writing...well, something of a rogue...he doesnt cotton to group control...long story...anyway, memory needs to be jogged again. Please?
To: Alkhin
I don't remember which particular bash it was either. Probably an Elrond bash....we usually bash him the most. Maybe the 'big butt' bash or the 'bathroom' bash.
To: Overtaxed
Oh wait a minute! You were gathering names of people because you bash elves too?? Is that what it was???
If so, you might find that it will be necessary to put me back on then. I still like Legolas and Elrond, but have no qualms about saying waht I think about elves! And when Hair posts the article I was talking about, there will be a furor over that too!
never mind, overtaxed...put me back on that list, please!
To: Alkhin

To: HairOfTheDog
I reaaally love collard greens, and cornbread. You gotta have em together.
Leaving soon to go see it again. This time I decided I'll sit close up.
To: Overtaxed
Do put me back on it! :D
Further reason why I should come here more often...so I can remember things!!
Overtaxed, what are your thoughts on the M&P storyline I was talking about in the movie???
OH, and also, Boyd and Monaghan are now speaking for Greenpeace. UGH! Am reading that more and more Scottish believe the environment needs saving...where the bloody hell do they get this idea? Do they have nothing better to do there than meddle in things they don't understand???
To: Alkhin
The Merry And Pippin Show I knew there was a reason why I didn't like Monaghan when I first saw him/read him in articles...thought Boyd had more class and sense to keep things to himself...but I guess not. Monaghan seems to think he is funnier than hell and aspires to write a movie about a couple of surfers in Florida. Hope it works out for him, but a smart publicity move would NOT spend time saying how UNfunny other people are.

Re Elrond. A friend who agrees that "Elrond" was less than satisfactory came up with an idea for a replacement for Hugo Weaving. Think on it before rejecting it out of hand, the notion might grow on you: Michael Ironside.

About the M&P storyline....I don't really have a gripe about the way the actors play them. My gripe is about the way they changed the story line. I think Treebeard should have been more aware of (and more concerned about) what was happening to his trees. That way the Ents would have decided for themselves to march on Isengard without Pippin having to trick them. I also didn't like the defeatist talk from M&P....they must have been spending too much time around Elrond! In the book they did moan and groan about being useless baggage and go through all that why did we come along stuff. But they didn't think about giving up and going home....that's the part I didn't like.
To: Overtaxed
Yes!!! My point exactly! Am so glad I am not the only one thinking that...hubby needs teh puter...talk later!!!

Think on it before rejecting it out of hand, the notion might grow on you: Michael Ironside. I don't have a problem with Hugo Weaving as Elrond...he looks the part. The problem I have is with the way the part is written. All that Isildur, Men, and Dwarf bashing seemed out of character for the book Elrond. Also, the book Elrond was more optimistic about the quest succeeding. And the book Elrond was more sympathetic to Aragorn.
I don't even know who Michael Ironside is.

Talk to ya later!

MBY: I'm kind of surprised that no one has mentioned 'lutefisk', had a bit some years ago, a co-worker from MN brought some in, whoo-eee, that did curl your hair. I suppose it's an acquired taste, like the vegimite they love or at least they say they do down under.
