The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I meant to tell you too 2J that I'm sorry to hear about your friend.
Prayers for you and her family.

reasons for not going to Kansas? The HR Lady tells me that they aren't offering to pay for relocation. If I don't sell/rent out my house before they want me in Kansas, I'd have to quit. :)

That and giving us another TEST!Separating the wheat from the chaff.
After going through these quizzes myself, I find that I am definitely on the chaff side of the aisle.

If you'd put on some skivvies, you wouldn't chafe so much...
To: Corin Stormhands
Thanks. I'm at peace with the Lord's decision. She had a very loving family that really has stepped up to the plate.
This would be a nightmare if this ever happened to me. I would really pity Steve having to deal with my family.

For now....let's see how far I can string them along. :)
Okay...if I can negotiate something so that I don't default on mortgage payments or end up having to live out of my car, the move may be on again.

Hey Suz...my kids get hungry during school. Here's a neat thing (imo) that I do to abate the mid-morning munchies! I scoop up a spoonful of peanut butter, sprinkle sunflower seeds on it and then dip it in rolled oats! Serve it with a small glass of milk. They munch on it quickly, it's filling and keeps them happy till lunch! Not too disruptive. Only a bit messy.

I am only coming up with the Golden Perch, The Green Dragon and the Prancing Pony. Can you remember the 4th? A pint sounds pretty good.

I think if you have a family member you want to send it to, you just give the mailing addy and they send it to them free. (Double check though, K?)
They are asking 5 dollars for any non-active duty who want one. I bought three :o)
More of a donation actually. They will need to pay for the CD's and all that.. but the donation MAY be tax deductible. (I think they are waiting status of tax exempt)
I just mailed my check to Neil E. Wright, made it out to VetsCor.
I'm waiting for mine,..and can't wait to see it, then mail them to the people I bought them for. :o)

I may get one for myself later, but even though I am sending the CD to the chaplain in Afghanistan, I didn't want to pay for it, because I view myself as only the conduit for VetsCor...if I pay for it, it's from me. If they give it to me for free, then it's from
them and I will make sure that the chaplain knows that the CD isn't from me, but from VetsCor.
I'm thrilled to get to do this for Neil E. Wright.

How's this for cool?
One of the guys in our church came back from Iraq late last week. He and his wife teach my Joshua's Sunday School class (3rd and 4th graders). He is in a combat rescue unit based at Patrick Air Base.
Pastor had him come up on Sunday morning just before the message and give a little testimony as to what happened over there. He said that for the first couple weeks they were so busy that he couldn't get to church, but then he remembered that he was the boss so he changed the schedule so that anyone who wanted to get to church would have an opportunity to go.
He bought a small American flag (6"x8" maybe) and had one of his choppers take it with them on a couple rescue missions. The pilots made a certificate and verified that it had been flown into downtown Baghdad on a real rescue mission. Jeff, the guy from my church, had the flag and certificate framed and presented it to his sunday school class.
The best thing about the morning was that when Jeff got up to the pulpit he was given a standing ovation. If you know fundamentalist Baptist churches you know that is a big deal, we DON'T clap in church. ;^)
I got all misty eyed and I think a whole bunch of other people did as well. In fact, I got myself again just writing this.

In other words, I don't feel comfortable giving out the chaplain's address...but I sure did want VetsCor to get one to them!
The Hole Dwellers have put up nearly (or maybe even more than) a thousand dollars toward the care packages I've sent and I don't believe any of them (well, maybe two or three) even know his last name. They have been wonderful to trust me, going on very little information originally. Now they have seen pictures of the items actually in Afghanistan, and for that I am thankful to the chaplain. It proved me faithful! :-)

That is great!! I believe that is exactly how they intended for this to work. Active duty get one FREE. :o)
I'll bet the good Chaplan shows it to some troops too!!
I might add.. I believe it can be copied by the troops to distribute to other troops, as long as they do not SELL it.
I haven't checked to see if Neil put the disclaimer up there yet. I was waiting until I got the CD's I asked for.
Just a heads up though.. I believe you can tell the good Chaplan he can copy them to redistribute them to the troops. My understanding is, VetsCor just wants the troops to SEE first hand some of the rallies that were done on their behalf. :o)

Yes, sorry I didn't let you know earlier.
I called my wife and she is going to have the kids make cards for the unit as a school project.
I'll get them in the mail to you as soon as I can.
When is your next shipment due to go out?
