Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

No, I haven't read them. I haven't had a whole lot of interest in them! - But she wants me to see it.
To: HairOfTheDog; SuziQ
I must still say...it's a complete mystery to me!!!!!
To: HairOfTheDog
I haven't had a whole lot of interest in them! Not that you've had any need to. ;-)
If you remember they're entertainment and not literature, it helps. We thought they were quite clever and they really encouaged Jr. to start reading more.

I remember several attempts to stay up till midnight when I was a kid. I didn't make it on the first few tries!lol...I still can't!
The Mrs. and I were both out like a light by 10:30pm.
Those are some great pictures, 2JM. It's my belief that there's no vision of this world so precious as that of a sleeping child.

There's just something about Liv Tyler that really bugs me. Her acting is decent, and she portrays a decent version of Arwen...but the second she opens her mouth, out-of-character, she sounds like a silly, immature girl.
Listening to her talk in the SE Appendices was more than I could bear...I had to mute her commentary.

the second she opens her mouth, out-of-character, she sounds like a silly, immature girl. Well, we can't all be rocket scientists... I think it is rather unfair for beautiful people to also be really smart, so I am happy that she is an airhead! LOL!

OT: New seed catalog, eh? Jung Quality Seeds by any chance? It's the Burpee catalogue. This year's free gift with every order.....zinnias! I have zinnias volunteering like weeds all growing season. The last thing I need is more zinnia seeds. (Well....I wouldn't mind trying the green ones.)
I've been watching the appendices today.
To: SuziQ
Ack, spit, ptewey! You can keep the collard greens! But you have to eat collards and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day or you'll have bad luck!
To: Overtaxed
Is that a fact.
Well, I have never had either, New Year's Day or otherwise! - And I can attest that the last time I gambled, I lost my shirt.
To: HairOfTheDog
Have to keep the Old Ways, dontcha know.
To: Overtaxed
Whose old ways are those? Is this a Southern thing? - I am not sure I could even pick a Collard green out of a lineup!
To: HairOfTheDog
Yep! A Southern thang.
Besides, collards and peas are good for you.
To: Overtaxed
Besides, collards and peas are good for you.
Then I bet they aren't very tasty.
To: HairOfTheDog
Add salt and fatback.

The Mrs. and I were both out like a light by 10:30pm. Jr. had a couple of friends over last night. We made it up until midnight, but shortly thereafter the Mrs. and I were growling at each other trying to determine who had to stay up. We finally told them they could watch one more movie downstairs then they had to go to his room. They were up until about 5:30 a.m....

I did get the FRmail, but it caught me at a time when I was really busy with other stuff, and I didn't dwell there very long... I still have it though. Did you want me to post it? Yes, please!! I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on it. I was very surprised not only to read that took a slightly different view of Tolkiens universe (and in some ways, lined up with some observations and thoughts I had myself, like whether or not I would get along at all in Middle Earth...I wouldn't...), but recieved two emails from the author himself. Very nice man.
Ate black eyed peas for good luck, and collard greens for money today...I love Southern cooking!
To: Overtaxed; HairOfTheDog; SuziQ
But you have to eat collards and black-eyed peas on New Year's Day or you'll have bad luck! I thought the collards were the bad luck...
To: Overtaxed; HairOfTheDog
But once you add the salt and fatback the collards and peas stop being good for you...
To: HairOfTheDog
I will not spam in 2003....
To: Corin Stormhands
I thought the collards were the bad luck... Only to Elrond. :)
