The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Great letter, 2J. Thanks for posting it!

I'm very upset this evening...I just saw this while I was catching up. I am sorry for you that you lost your friend. But just remember:
Ps 116:15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
I pray that God helps you during your time of mourning and that He gives you peace and strength through this trying time. Am praying for her family as well.

Morning all. It's a beautiful spring morning here today -- after a horrible wind last night. Once again, I will spend the afternoon picking up limbs.

"the 'five' out and about on other threads, I find that they are just as obnoxious and mean-spirited no matter what subject they are discussing." Sounds like to them, religion is a just a weapon they can use to subdue others.

Good morning! Beautiful here, too. It's supposed to get up in the 70s!
My sister and I started working on my herb garden yesterday evening. Got as far as digging up a spot, but still have a lot of rocks to pick out (I'd forgotten how rocky Vermont soil is!) and some prepping to do before we actually plant. At least my tulips are coming up! I was afraid they were dead. They're still pretty small, which makes me wonder if they'll actually flower...but at least they're alive!
To: carton253
Corin, you've quit the religious wars numerous times. Is this time... for sure. Merely backing off. Not quitting.
To: Wneighbor
Good Morning! The weather is nice....can I go home now?
Guess I need to start looking for a job. I don't think relocating to Kansas is going to be worth the trouble. :)

Hey, I've been reminded why I left the Religion Wars in the first place. Corin, the religion wars were what kept me a lurker the longest. Initially when I found Free Republic I would look at news items and think about commenting and then browse religion because it's my favorite topic anyway. But, I was so turned off. When I finally first started posting it was on humor and political cartoons and such. I wanted to be here to relieve stress, not build it.
I figure it might be somebody's call to argue with nincompoops. And it might be yours, but it sure isn't mine. :-)
But, being off the threads for a bit might be more fun for you.

Good Morning! The weather is nice....can I go home now? Yes.
now can i have a big handful of your M&M's?
To: carton253
You have freepmail.
To: Wneighbor
I'll have to buy more M&M's first!
To: 2Jedismom
Did you ever think of letting ToRN know what some fellow Tolkien fans are doing? I don't mean let them know so they can contribute to you and make the task unmanageable but just to show them how a few Tolkien geeks are making a difference in the lives of our troops.
I wish I could contribute some cash to you, but I can at least support the Renegade Chaplain and his flock in my prayers.
Thanks for all the work you are doing 2J! Thanks Steve for letting your wife do this!

But, being off the threads for a bit might be more fun for you. Other than to rattle their cages on occasion (it's a dwarf thing), I really have tried to stay away from there. With the notable exception being the recent round with the [FR Fifth Amendment]s. That spoke more to the nature of FR than to any theological arguments.
That seems to have subsided. So I can back off again.

My sister and I started working on my herb garden yesterday evening. Got as far as digging up a spot, but still have a lot of rocks to pick out .......Wow, great temps for the day. Congrats on getting your gardening started. When I moved to the country 19 years ago I thought the rocks in the garden were a nuisance until an old timer told me to leave them in because they add trace minerals as they decompose. He did that old-timer mumble about folks digging out all the rocks and then adding fertilizer to put back in some of the stuff that God put the rocks there for. So, pick out some if its all rocky, but leave some.
and don't give up on your tulips. Sometimes things take a season to get going.

You are quite welcome, but the letter was for you and everyone, and I just had to post it!
I'm glad he made a point to refer to the Hobbit Hole and not just to me, I've tried to be very clear on that when corresponding to him. The care packages have been a group effort.
I got the news about my friend passing away on Friday evening and was feeling pretty bleak, what with our loss of the soldier in Afghanistan. Then I got this letter the next morning and it lifted my spirits considerably.
Good morning everyone!

That spoke more to the nature of FR than to any theological arguments. Well, the day that I went over there and posted that one statement signifies their mentality level to me. They chose to completely ignor the real thing you said and add their own sick spin. All subsequent posts were as though their spin was what you really said and no amount of persuasion would convince them to be truthful. Not being truthful = lying. We know the identity of the father of that.

So, pick out some if its all rocky, but leave some. Good to know! So I have some excuse...but some of the rocks are real monsters! And one corner of the little patch we dug up is almost pure sand. Why, I don't know...we're talking a rectangle about five feet by three...you wouldn't think there would be much of a variation between one end and the other, but there is!
To: Overtaxed
I'll have to buy more M&M's first! Figures. You probably ought to just stay at work then because you would just forget to share your M&M's. LOL
To: ksen
I would like to try to go back and find all the care package posts...you know, where I posted pictures, at least for Ecurb...he wants to document it. Sigh...It's a task though!
Ksen, on the chaplains behalf, thank you for your prayers. He covets them more than anything else. If you could manage even to send me just a card or letter saying that you are praying for him, he would love it. My mom got a card and had it signed by her Sunday school class and I sent it. It means a lot to him.
