The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Science Fiction is my favorite reading, since I was a kid. I have read those books.

And that highway trip! I've been there. I much prefer the back ways trips. From here to Austin I like to skirt around Victoria to HWY 236 through Arnekeville into Cuero. I love that drive. Nothing spectacular but very nice.

Dang it! Another test I didn't study for, and I don't have my books with me.

I can answer maybe one or two without looking them up. So there.

If I keep flunking these tests will that mean that I have to stay on this thread when we move to a new home?

please add me to your list.

however, as I am at work and my books are at home, I'm going to have to take a pass on this quiz.

Ugh! I cannot answer most of those without looking at the book!

1. I know that Tobold Hornblower of Longbottom was the first grower of real pipe weed (Old Toby). :)

3. I think it's green and yellow.

5. And the first Hobbit to wear the Ring was Bilbo, of course. Smeagol was Hobbit-like, but he wasn't exactly a "Hobbit" if I understand it correctly.

8. The Harfoots? Weren't they the ones that lived near mountains?

10. The only real official in the Shire was the Mayor and he basically presided over banquets and things of that sort.

"...scrambled egs with ham and cheese, 7 platters of bacon, 6 platters of fried ham and sausage links and a skillet full of hash browns and home fries..."

You'll need some of these to wash it all down.

"...Tobold Hornblower of Longbottom was the first grower of real pipe weed"

I knew there was a reason why those Hobbits were always hungry!

A short note from the Chaplain:

I'm not sure if I mentioned to you that I received a package with the Lord of the Rings book sets and devotional material. I gave a set of books to our Medical Company Commander to have down in their area for them to read. The others, I took to the Power House. Thank you so much! I am unable to express my appreciation with words.

One of our favorite folk singers died in a plane crash either going to or coming from the Kerrville Folk Festival many years ago. It was Stan Rogers, and we didn't even know about him until after his death. We used to listen to a Folk Show on Sunday nights out of Philly, and they played his music a lot. We've seen his brother, Garnet Rogers, a few times in concert. Wonderful singers, both.
