The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Heh, all I know is that it's driven up the price of land out here. And all of the good spots are taken!

We're shifting our focus, by the way, over to east of I35 and north of 183... Pflugerville, Round Rock, Hutto, Taylor, Georgetown. Land prices there are about half of what they are in the Leander/Liberty Hill area...

That's a stupid theory. I like the "The Earth was created last Thursday" theory better.

I used to like Hutto. Had friends there. Couple of good honky tonks. And an SPJST over in Taylor where you could scoot a boot. heh heh. Talk about way old flashbacks! Ya'll ought to move to Hutto. Last I knew anything Hutto was a lot less expensive than RR or Georgetown. Wow, Taylor is getting into that long drive time for Rose though.

Have you ever read "Chariots of the Gods?" by Erich von Daniken? A little dated now, since it was written in the 70's, but it was the start of the "Ancient Astronaut" theory of human history. ;)

okay, is this a plan? are you just a catalyst for flashbacks for me tonight?

Uhm, OK.

But I think I posted to the Hobbit Hole before last Thursday, so I'm not sure how well that theory will hold up... ;)

You were just created with memories of previous to Thursday. And your computer was created that way too.

I swear I'm not making this up.

Well, it would be a straight shot down highway 79 from Taylor to Round Rock, but I suspect the morning traffic is pretty heavy.

LOL! Were you into Ancient Astronauts "back in the day"? I don't mean to be causing any flashbacks!

It is certainly possible!

No way to prove or disprove it, actually.

So, what the heck. A difference which makes no difference, is no difference, I say.

I think I must have terrorized my mother with many beliefs through the years. She was a very unlearned Sunday School teacher. Remember, those books had Biblical references and I had a great memory back then. I could point out scriptures that she didn't know what to make of. Yep, I was into that and more.

Something has decided to munch on my lemon balm since this morning. There's holes in some leaves. I dusted 'em with Sevin Dust. Then, we had a gully washer so I'm sure it got washed off. I will dust again in the morning. Pesky vermin.

ROFLMAO!!! You think I can actually remember that stuff? That was the '70's man! I fried those brain cells. I just remember the I remembered 'em then.

but then, at moot, you may be able to jog some of those circuits back into connection.

So, have you traveled out west of Kerrville to Texas stonehenge yet?

Really? I've never had anything munch on my herbs....besides the neighbor cat on the catnip. At least, not enough to damage the plant.

No, all I ever heard of in Kerrville was the annual folk music festival. Haven't seen that either.

Heh, I read all the books and investigated the theories behind them, but I never really believed them... just sort of kept my mind open to the possibilities.

I never had either! That's why I thought it was so weird and mentioned it... to see if you knew of a potential pest. I examined the leaves and saw neither worm or bug. Chemicals are now in order though.

Hey! It's an hour too early for your departure, Master Dwarf!

Ssshhhhhh! Ruthy, you're supposed to be on my side!

I read avidly anything that struck me. Remember there was some movie along the lines of the books, sci-fi pretend documentary or something. It was all the rage for a while.

I didn't have an upbringing of any sort of where-we-come-from philosophy at all, so I was searching for explanations. In a lot of ways. Funny, my Grama had the explanation all along, she just never told me because it wasn't what my mom and dad wanted being said.

Good thing you didn't say that to an ent.

Yes, saw the movie here too.

I still find "strange science" to be fascinating reading.
