Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

HA! So she did.... I forgot! Would have been better if she stiffed him.
To: HairOfTheDog
He would have been slighted and gone after the Ring even more viciously. Anyway, Galadriel had too much class to stiff anyone.
Because I'm not likely to have time to drop in and correct all the mistakes that get made around here :^), I'll say it now.
To you, Miss Hair, and all your friends, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! (whooppee!)

Happy New Year to you too Argh!
Try to drop in and keep me honest when you can!

OT: Driving down I-85 saw lots of trees damaged from the ice storm - youch!!! Do you remember me talking about worrying that the gum tree would come down on me? Well on the local gardening call-in show, the gardener people said that gums and tulip poplars fared the best in the ice storm. Whew!

Bear: I can't remember, did you like Nemesis? Jr. and I saw it Sunday night. I was not moved.Yes, I liked it. My definition of "like" is pretty broad though... the movie didn't actively offend me, like Nerd Erec... uhh, Insurrection did. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again, though. So, in this case, "like" equates to "a pleasant, relatively inexpensive trip to the movies with my honey."

Welcome back, Corin!
Prayers on the way for a successful and quick recovery of Jr.'s surgery.
I'm feeling much better and am on my way out the door to meet Glen and catch the 3PM show of TTT.
See you all later!

You, my friend, are on the home stretch now.

In the book he gets a belt of golden, linked leaves. But we were then correct that he was the only one in the movie that didn't get a gift?

So, in this case, "like" equates to "a pleasant, relatively inexpensive trip to the movies with my honey." Indeed. I told the Mrs. that it was like a good episode of Generations, but not a good feature film. I think First Contact is the only one I'd put in the good category. Generations was okay.
I told her thought that I'd still like to have all nine on DVD. "Even the odd-numbered ones?" she asked. Well, of course, they're a set. But I wouldn't go back to the theater to see Nemesis again...(especially while TTT is still playing!)
To: Corin Stormhands
You are correct that it isn't shown! You know, like Tom Bombadil, it just happened "off-screen"!
(She stiffed him)
To: ksen
Congratulations! Rose and I have tickets to see it tomorrow as well (our second viewing). We'll be seeing it in a different venue this time... a place called the Alamo Draft House, where you sit at a table and can have dinner while you watch the movie. Looking forward to it!
Also looking forward to your report after you see it... hope you have a great time! :)

I saw FoTR in a place like that. It was a unique experience. The waitress kept coming around and we'd order hot dogs, popcorn, and pitchers of soda.
The only thing about ours was that the sound system couldn't handle the sound of FoTR adequately. It sounded like I was listening to something on 2-channels that was designed for 4-channels.
It was a neat experience, but I found that it was difficult to get as "into" the movie with all the other activity going on around us.
I hope you and Rose enjoy it.

G: nice recovery from your previous post, :-) although it made for higher drama, the standoff before the walls, effective use of the bow would call for volley fire as soon as the U-H were in range, say 200-250 yds. Close order marching, as they were, makes such an inviting target.
The English Longbowmen of the 100 years war were able to get 6-10 shots per minute and laydown a beaten zone that kept the French knights at arms length. Okay, the french aren't the U-H. But you get the drift.
The champion speed shooters in England get 20 shots off in a minute and each hitting the target. Limiting factor being the number of arrows you can carry and have readily available for resupply.
For close up and personal I would favor a Kukri and a longish handle hatchet. However, unlike you, my experience is theoretical and not first hand.
Salute to those in the uniform, you have my admiration and respect, sir.

Yep, I have tickets for the 1:10 & 4:30 shows. I figure two times in a row should help make up for lost time. ;^)

Did y'all find a nice plan for your new house? Is there a plan online like the one y'all are going to build that you could 'show' us?
