The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

You really ought to write a sit-com!

Unfortunatley though, my life traumas can't always be resolved in 30-minute cycles.

Did I mention I had to reschedule the dog's vet appointment that I set up for this afternoon? His left "thumb" is at a right angle to the rest of his paw. I didn't want to try to treat it myself. Plus he's due for some shots (but don't mention them in case he's reading this).

LOL, yes, they are.

Hi Ruthy, glad you are feeling better, it sounded very scary. How is Mom, also?

Truthfully, the guy is a good model, very well defined. Just part of him is humerous, IMO.

Painting class we did a guy also, followed by the pretty female we are now working on.

I couldn't figure out how to get accross the parking lot with the painting of the guy though, luckily it was dark out.

I am wondering about the black mold, Jeanne and me think our house might be doing something similar.

Any ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions?

If you can't find an owner. I'd call a shelter or a rescue group. I've taken in strays before, but not pregnant ones, and not when I've had a three-year-old in the house.

I've heard rumors that they're going to make a TV mini-series of A Wrinkle in Time

Clare and I just watched a trailer on line for the miniseries. We read that it had not yet aired, though it was supposed to have been on Wonderful World of Disney in Feb. of 2002. Netflix doesn't have it, but we'll keep looking.

I agree with Hair on this one, Seamus.

If you can get her to a shelter before the kittens are born, it's better for everyone. If not, I'm just like Hair as far as adopting needy souls off the street (4 legged kind).

I'm allergic to cats, so it keeps me from going overboard and since I've stopped working at the animal clinic, temptation is no longer in my face on a daily basis.

If you do keep her, put her somewhere quiet like a spare room or the garage, in a box or crate. She'll want privacy, but I believe that if she's sociable enough to let you pet her, she'll be alright with you all around her kittens. As a precaution, I'd keep Autumn away (look but don't touch) until you've tested the waters and the kittens are a week or so old.

The shed sounds good. But I think you need some sort of refuge until then, too.

But, and scuse me if I'm pryin' Seamus, isn't the missus also in "that" way?

Hair would know better than I, but aren't wimmin in that condition supposed to stay away from cat litter? Or is that urban legend? Seems like a whole flock of kittens would just make that difficult.

But, what do I know?

Why do I find myself morbidly fascinated by that explanation?

Think "Austin Powers."

It doesn't appear to be hurting him. It just doesn't look pretty. I didn't look at it closely enough to know for sure as I didn't want to hurt him, but my b-i-l who noticed it first and did look thinks it's just the nail.

We have an animal ER, but I don't think he's in pain.

Why do I get the image of Peter Sellers and his bass violin in A Shot in the Dark?

You need one of them elvish cloaks...

My mom is feeling fine. The bump and bruising is all gone, but she swears she still feels like there is something there on her skull. Poor Mom!

I admire how you can keep your composure in those classes, Sam! I have a hard time holding back laughter, especially when there is someone with me who I know is holding in their laughter as well. I'd be the absolute WORST person to take that class! The models would be offended for sure.

As far as the black mold - follow your nose. That's how we found it. There was a constant underlying smell of mildew in our kitchen....very nasty. We sniffed it out to the back of the fridge and that's when we discovered the green stuff growing along the base of the cabinetry that sidles right up next to the side of the fridge. YUCK!

The most important thing is not to touch it or move stuff around in the affected area. The spores go everywhere and make you feel like real crap when you breathe it in. We have an entire bottom 2 door cabinet filled with stuff we cannot use, move or touch.

The one worrisome (but non-life-threatening) disease that I would be on the lookout for if the kittens are born at home (his male kitty is already in enough contact with this one to get the other diseases from her if he was going to) is the "cold" kittens get in their eyes and noses... I think it is an influenza.... What is that Ruthy? Shouldn't she be given the full range booster shot now before birth so she passes the immunities through in her colostrum?

Seamus, is your kitty immunized for Feline Leukemia?

Errm...no.

The latest pregnancy ended up being ectopic, and Jess had to have her right tube removed in an emergency surgery.

She was about 24 to 48 hours away from her tube bursting, potentially killing her.

Second time in 3 months she has narrowly avoided death. Someone up there likes her.

I agree with Sam here, Corin. You need a space of your own, however small it may be.

I confess that I have resorted to hiding in the bathroom for a half an hour with the water running as if I were showering, just so I could finish a chapter of a book in peace!
