The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I put a Rubens up because Suzi asked about zoftig. I think Rubens was one of the best, and I love this painting, but Rubens is not one of my favorite masters. Incidentally, many of his paintings were only partially painted by him, students did a lot of the work on them.

Those feet are really exaggerated, I'd freak out if Jeanne had feet like that.

I love the little kids in the water, though.

I like better Rembrandt, Haals, Van Eyck, Carravagio, Velasquez, Eakins, Bouveret, Homer, and a lot of others that I can't think of right off the bat.

No Jen, you must love your maternal grandmother! What movie is she watching?

Probably she is watching Elliot Ness, or the Untouchables, or something.

Oh, yeah, there are some traits like that in my family too... big ears on my father's side, a furrowed brow and rolling walk on my mother's side...

Genetics is so much fun.

Er... well, there's something called "Moonstruck" on now. And she wants to watch "Easter Parade" later. That is bad enough when it's not 10 at night and I've had more than three hours bad sleep the night before.

"Western PA Girl goes on Homicidal Rampage on Easter, Dozens Injured". I see it now.

Yes, that Moonstruck

While she is here and sleeping in my bed, I get to sleep in the loft. On a couch. About twenty feet, though some of that is vertical, from the television and sound system. Ugh.

Mom calls it the "Olson Roll".

I got the scowl and the walk from Mom's side of the family, but at least I didn't get the big ears from Dad's side.

Yeah - would be too much to be a scowling roll-walking guy with big ears!

"Moonstruck" is a pretty good movie too.

Watching "Iron Chef" here... it's the Grand Finale of the "King of Iron Chefs" battle! Iron Chef French vs. Iron Chef Chinese, cooking lobster recipes!

Oh, who will win...?

#171 is "The Beggar Girls" by William Bougereau, late 1800's.

Bougereau is not respected in the art world because he painted realism and some dumb classical themes when everyone else was doing impressionism. So he is considered old fashioned.

Even though I have some education in art, I never heard of him until I started with Free Republic and saw him being discussed on a thread.

I think the guy was a genius.

Are the feet OK?

Agreed... even when I'm not feeling p.o.'d, I still look it.

At least people get out of my way when I'm rolling along!

I think those are the best we should expect out of feet!

Beautiful painting!
