The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Do you think they ate too many carbs back then? The Union of Earth and Water, by Rubens, 1600's

I am too lazy to rearrange anything except my computer windows! LOL!!! Truth is, that describes me pretty well. I'm still trying to get stuff into place from moving in. Over a year ago now. I just hate it.

I don't think those waves in the water look real. Waves should look real. Forget bodies.

BIRB: Hill Country; that is a nice part of the state; a good number of years ago (1974) I rode in the Hill Country Tour, quite a sight, hundreds of bikers, mostly roadriders, snaking through the hills;
Wneighbor, 600 miles in 24 hours is a heap of riding, hope you have windshield. Was very partial to the half-fairing on my old CB-450, rode all through the SW US and most of northern Mexico including Baja. Just wasn't the same riding on I-35 in Kansas City, lol, so it found a new home.

Dang, she looks like she could peel a banana with those feet!
Back in those days, malnutrition was the lot of the common man. A woman who was, uhm, plump, was seen as both healthy and, most likely, rich. Which both translated to being desirable!
It's the opposite today... food is so cheap and plentiful in our culture that the common man is overweight. So, a thin woman becomes desirable: thinner is healthier, we're told, and only someone with money has the time to excercise enough to stay thin!

Is it just me, or does Venus look stoned out of her mind?
But I like those bodies! Nice easy standard of beauty they had!

She's either stoned, or a complete airhead. The expression on her face defines "vapid".
Good thing I'm not an art critic!

To tell you the truth, IMO, Alan Lee and John Howe are 2 of the best living artists.

I saw the tiger, not far from her ape-feet.
A podiatrist could make a fortune off of her.

Yeah, I like Nasmith also. I don't remember that his people were not good.
The "Birth of Venus" by Botticelli is one of my all time favorite paintings. Actually, I enjoy the abstract, symbolic treatment of the waves and the ethereal expression on her face.
Now to get a dictionary and look up ethereal.
