The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Gorgeous day so far, here. Have a lot of errands to run and then I've got to clean this place. Cat hair everywhere! Ack!
To: Lil'freeper
Cat hair is a fact of life.
To: Lil'freeper; Overtaxed
Well, ya'll take care of your cat hair. I'm fixin' to get dressed and take off for the day. Back this evening. Pray that it doesn't rain in north Texas before I get home if you don't mind.
To: Overtaxed
Aaaah, but cat hair in the spring is a different matter. I tease them and tell them I could build a whole new cat with the hair I pull off of them. We have one of those gloves with the nobbies on it that does a good job pulling loose hair- they looooooooove it. < Cue the Barry White music >

Guess I'll haul some branches to the road so I can cut the grass later this week. Wonder if I can take down the Hanging Tree of Damocles with a bow saw.

Good morning! The pipe seems to be holding! No leak. I got up about 4 times in the night, just to glance under there to check for fresh water and it's remained very dry.
Steve got our tree down...the big part that fell. Sawed it into big managable chunks and pulled it into the backyard.

Good news on the pipe!
Just checked out at The House and it sounds like it's too wet to till so I'm doing tree stuff today. The guvmint guys are supposed to make another sweep through here to pick up storm damage...the only problem is that we don't know when they'll be here.
I've got more solvents on order for next week and that means two more big bags of vermiculite. I guess I can always spread the stuff throughout the garden.

Note to self: By copy of Dark Side of the Moon. Also pick up supplies for Irish Car Bombs...Whoa!
To: Overtaxed
Yep, I'm washing clothes...next I'm going to wash my hair!
It's raining outside. Steve is gone...working on his paper. Just a couple of weeks or so left till he is done and he's really working hard. I won't see him much for the next couple of weeks or so.

Did that yesterday.
I'm finishing a second cup of coffee and watching the end of MST3K. Then I'll have to get off my Freeper's Butt and do something constructive. :)

2JM & Wn: 2JM - whislt reading your post on your mother, Susan commented, hmmm, "sounds like 2JM's mom and mine are twins, separated at birth, one in OK and one in KS"
Wn: while reading your comment she again said - "wow, triplets, separated at birth, one in OK, one in KS, now one in TX, what are odds of that" LOL.
2JM: glad to hear the pipes are holding and Steve's logging adventure was alright. firewood, bbq chips, mulch, ahhh, the possibilities.
To: 2Jedismom
Oh my stars, I'm so relieved. I can handle the rest.I'm glad it worked out so well for you 2J.
I know what you mean about the consternation of seeing the outside wall of the house pulled apart. SSQ had to pull a huge area of siding off and rip out the insulation because some carpenter ants had built a nest in our wall!!
They returned last year, and SSQ decided to use 'gas warfare' to kill them. We got a tank of CO2, and he drilled a hole in the top (to put in the CO2), and bottom (to let the forced oxygen out) of the wall. Then he snaked the hose with the CO2 into the top hole and turned the tank on. We kept waiting for the ants to come pouring out of the bottom hole, but the gas must have gotten them before they could react. Killed em DEAD! We had heard them scurrying in the walls before, and afterwards it was just SILENCE!
So we've found the perfect, non-pesticide way to kill carpenter ants!
To: osagebowman
I'm telling you, this piece of tree is really huge. About half the tree fell over. Steve cut it in the chunks and is claiming that he is slowly going to burn it up in our old rusted out brinkmans smoker...little by little! Ha!
He already started and the boys had 'smores out in the back yard night before last!

Amazing!
The good thing about this whole thing is that we were able to actually eyeball the enterior of our house, behind the tub and such and there are no critters to be seen...termites and such. Just damp! I still have the fan going, pointed down into the cabinet, and the outside that is covered with plastic is tented out so the air can flow out of it...amazingly, it's drying pretty fast.

OT: well, raining here, but Susan got the fertilizer down Friday, perfect timing. Samantha is reacting as usual to the rain, big eyes, panting, wanting to be in lap and suceeding, etc. Buckets are outside near the eave corners, rainwater's great for the houseplants, and without the city surcharge lol. Well, no gardening today, will run some errands, and head down to the shop.
Good luck on the logging, wear your hardhat, safety glasses, safety gloves, etc. etc.

I think Corin is going through a midlife crisis! ;-) Where's that garden hose?
Midlife crisis indeed...
