Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

She's had a bad life...I feel sorry for her a lot of times. What a miserable life it must be to constantly find fault in everything around you.
I've said it before...my optimistic outlook and cheerful disposition is blatant rebellion. By God, I'm going to be cheerful if it kills me.

Likely...
But I won't be the scapegoat.

LOL! I have no business complaining about other peoples' messy houses! My mom didn't gripe about my house being messy but she sure did if it was her house that was...um...allowed to get messy. :)

Lots of people, specially mothers I think, seem to favor the sons over the daughters.
Don't know why, really, just have noticed it. As far as I am concerned, the sun, moon and stars rise and set over my daughter.

There's an advantage to only having younger brothers; it makes you look so much better because you're grown when they're still little.
I don't think my mother will have favoritism issues!

Oh I wasn't getting flowers for the kitty. Flowers are to take to the cememtary.

I will be the first to admit, I cheered when I found out Joshua was a boy. I did not want a girl. My grandmother favored her sons over my mom and my mom favored my little brother over me. Now, I have two little boys and I don't have to even worry about it.

Just remember that if you put a gumdrop ladybug on one boy's cake, you'd better put it on the other's too!

Yep, for Easter.

But with her, everything is substandard. You never reach her idea of good, because the bar is always rising. It's pathetic. I've been suspecting something like this.... same name.... close birthdates.... now I know, WE HAVE THE SAME MOTHER!!!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Good evening everyone. I just got back from a 500 mile round trip to see my Grama, and unfortunately my mother.
To: Overtaxed
You bet! Both times! LOL
Steve has often said I am the fairest person he's ever met. One thing that gets me more than anything is injustice. I rail against it...although life is full of it. So, I'm generally pretty fair.

Wow! That's a long haul.

My parents didn't have daughters, if they had a favorite among us 4 brothers, it never showed. They loved us all unconditionally. Jeanne and me feel the same about our 2 children, one son, one daughter.
I admit to having wanted only boys, but shortly after daughter's birth, figured out what a mistaken attitude that was. What a delight having a young lady grow up in the house. She's a good fishing buddy as well.

Wow! That's a long haul. Well, First thing is, Grama's worth it. But, there was a side benefit. I rode my bike home on the flip side of the trip. I'd taken it down to a friend for some maintenance and picked it up for gorgeous spring riding. :-)

Funny thing happened the other day. My neighbor, who is very emotionally unattached to her children and rarely has a good word to say about them, was telling me how upset she was that her son failed first grade. Then she mentioned off the cuff that he'd hit a home run at baseball the other night.
Later on, I see this little boy fetching his baseball from my front yard. I jerked open the door and just poured on the praise about how I'd heard about his home run and I said "Your mother is so proud of you!" He just beamed and ran back home.
I shut the door and it dawned on me, I was doing the same thing to that little boy that my neighbor did to me...countless times. She would repeatedly tell me how proud my mother was of me...and it always made me happy when I was a child. Now, I realize it was probably her best effort to help me. And like with this little boy, it was likely untrue.

Back to the old subject, I'm so glad your plumbing is up to snuff now. I know that's horrible to have to be worried about terrible repairs.
And, loved those photos!!!
