The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I got in a fight with my mom! I went over to her house and was visiting in the front yard with my brother, when she came out and just bawled me out for not watching my kids (who were playing happily in the backyard). Apparently, Matthew was deploying some kind of large anit-aircraft missile of some sort and was using her apple tree limb to do it...which really upset her. I told her to just tell him to stop and she said she shouldn't have to watch my kids, she does it too much as it is and I never do. I told her she never comes over to my house enough to know how much I watch my kids and she said I didn't want her over because my house is too messy. I said "NO, I don't want you to come over because I don't want to hear you make snide remarks about how messy my house is. Whether or not you come over is completely up to you." Then I told the kids to come on, we were going home to our filthy house. My sweet 3 year old niece asked "Why do you have to go home to your filthy house?" I replied "Because it's my comfortable home."

Would you two argumentative people please come over here and kill my grandmother? I can't get anyone to tell me whether I must suffer for three days - or TWO WEEKS.
Sigh. We made Easter eggs here, fun fun, and work was exasperating beyond words. I had to make a chocolate run...
This is the weekend from heck. Shoot me now?

And the thing is, she's all the time telling me she'll watch the boys if I want to work...

I'm trying to get the boys into bed. I'm telling you, they are the sweetest most well-behaved and happy children you'd ever want to meet. I know it and everyone that meets them recognizes it right away...they are honest loving boys. They exceed my standards almost in every way.
But with her, everything is substandard. You never reach her idea of good, because the bar is always rising. It's pathetic.

It's aggravating having to listen to that stuff, but I hope you're not stressing yourself out trying to meet her standanrds.
To: Overtaxed
No, it's impossible and I've known that for years. What gets me is that she did it in front of my brother and his wife, who raise kids that are monsters. I almost feel like she was using me to get a message across to them and I don't like being used and I'm not into playing games especially when my kids are in the middle.
I just have a feeling...

Wow... that's bad. My grandmother is the same way with my mother versus her brother. He can do no wrong, and she can do no right.

Yeah that is kind of bad playing siblings off each other like that. Guess you could always tell her you're just going to stay in your messy house!
To: JenB
That's right. That's how this is. My little brother is a good person and I love him dearly...but he can do no wrong with my mother. So she can bring herself to yell at me but she would never speak to him that way.
Another thing, my SIL was sitting out there with the kids, by herself. She won't leave them for a second...she watches over them constantly. Her perogative, but my mom's back yard is safer than mine! I let them go out in the back all the time by themself...so why she wanted me to go back there and sit with my SIL is a puzzle too...did she think I wasn't being as good as my SIL? She doesn't normally have a problem with the boys being out there by themselves...it's all just really strange.
I just feel like there was something going on that I am unaware of...

My messy house (that isn't really all that messy, just tiny and stuffed) is a much more comfortable place. I would never make someone feel obligated for every bite that goes in their mouth. Seriously, I tried to feed the plumber waffles this morning...I had them ready, if he'd wanted them.
He got the pipe fixed again...not leaking at all now and hasn't for about 5 hours...so I guess it's ok. I still have the fan blowing under there.
