The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Going in to FOTR, I had read some of the pre-reviews, and the consistently thunderstruck tone had impressed me, plus those who'd said (reading my mind) "Don't worry about elevated expectations from the hype — this film suprasses the hype!"

But I remember watching the opening scenes just slackjawed and awestruck, and then tears coming to my eyes when the music changed and you saw Frodo sitting and reading. I thought then, "This guy GETS it!"

I'm sure ROTK will be very emotional.

I don't know definite release dates for the TTT DVD's -- do you?

Dan

the Two Towers EE will have 43 additional minutes

Wowsers! I can't wait. We'll have to have a MN-mini-pre-moot when that comes out.

I didn't see it for a few days after everyone else saw it... I was waiting until I could go with my brother. So I was busting at the seams waiting for the screen to go to black and start. Everyone had raved so much! - But I do know that I was so overloaded the first time I watched it I was just saying "WOW". I didn't really absorb and enjoy it fully till the second time!

As for the TTT release dates, I think the dates are known, but I don't remember them. Early August, and November. Roughly the same dates as last time.

I think I am confused about what key you are talking about. I wasn't paying attention, and the only key I remember in the demo was the key to Bag End that I was supposed to take to Lobelia with the deed or something.

I thought you were talking about that! - What do you need Ted Sandyman's key for?

Maybe it was a pin? Anyway....if you talk to Ted Sandyman, he's out looking for a "part" to his mill and you're supposed to help him find it.

Yes. I could see how another 43 minutes of Gimli could prompt that...

Then it's supposed to get cold and do the wintry mix thing again, but I'm trying to forget that...

LOL!! Yeah I was looking at the forecast today because SSQ is gonna take the front door off tomorrow so I can paint it. It will be in the 60s tomorrow, but 36 on Wed. and Thurs. with Snow Showers! Gonna warm up to the 50s for Easter Sunday, so I guess we can look forward to that!

My crocuses (croci?) are blooming profusely! The hyacinth are just fixing to open. I hope the daffy-dils come up soon! I saw a big clump of them, already fully open, in someone's yard today. They looked SO cheerful!

You swoon over Gimli and I'll swoon over elves, men of Gondor and Rohan. We'll both be swooning.

"When you're at Sandyman's Mill, it's before the bridge to Bywater, you'll see a hobbit bending over looking for something. Talk to him and he'll seem pretty grumpy and he'll explain that the mill is missing a pin. You'll receive a quest here that says something like "Find the missing metal pin". I don't remember what it says, ok!? This is all off my memory. Once you're finished talking to him, face the mill. Ok, you can still see the mill? Is it still standing? Good, turn around. You should be facing a little field of llama looking creatures standing on grass. Hop the little wall in front of that and run past the llamas and along the water's egde until you get to a house with some silos. Near the house you should see a hobbit. Talk to him. He'll tell you that his weather vane isn't working. When you're done talking to him, you'll receive yet another quest. Don't worry it's all part of the first one. This quest says something like "Throw a rock at Hal's weather vane". Ok now face the water and run up to it. Turn right and you will see a silo with a weather vane on top of it. Run up to the silo and turn right. Run between the house and that same silo and turn right when you get past the house. You should see a silo with a ladder attached to it. Climb the ladder and face the weather vane. Switch to first-person mode and chuck a rock at it until you hit it. After you hit it, you'll get another quest that says something like "Talk to Hal". Go back to Hal and talk to him. He'll tell you it works like new then give you a metal pin! Cha-ching! There you have it. Run back to Sandyman and talk to him to give him the pin and finish this quest."
