The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Happy birthday, both of you! I'm a little late, I know...didn't get much Freeping time this weekend!

Apple pie and cheese is a fairly old tradition, far as I know...

As long as you don't put gravy on your apple pie. That's a Pennsylvania thing if I recall correctly. Or perhaps it comes from the Amish.

Our local "premier" grocery chain (they still insist on carrying your bags to the car), does an apple and cheddar breakfast pizza....mmmmmm....

Hello. Good Morning! I am here.

Oh and add a covered bridge to the list of MD locales. DC, Ft. McHenry, Amish country, Chesapeake Bay, and a covered bridge

Hm...we have lots o' covered bridges around here, too! Three in this town alone...might be fun to collect some Frodo covered bridge pictures, no?

Can't believe I beat Corin in this morning. Must still be recovering from dwarfmoot.

Mornin' LF.

It's Spring Break. We shipped the boys off with their aunt and uncle yesterday (Mrs. will connect with them at my mom's tomorrow).

So I went to the gym at 6:30 instead of 5:00...

Sounds like you guys had a good time...makes me long for Entmoot!

Yeah. I must admit I've been a little hesitant about whether I'd really show up at Entmoot. But after Dwarf-Moot, and since I know g'nad really isn't an axe murderer, I can't wait.

My wife still wonders about us. And Mrs. g'nad looked at us several times over the weekend and just rolled her eyes...

Good morning! Looky what we get for weather today and tomorrow! It was nice this weekend, too, though cold yesterday. Sunny, but with a really cold wind. I'll be happier in a few weeks when it's not frosting up at night!

Gravy!?

That's truly weird, IMO.

Morning Corin, everyone.

My wife is still skeptical, some.

But I wouldn't miss it for the world. She's coming, too.

I would have been kind of sad if you didn't come to it, Corin.

So...I at least made a temporary play area for Fiona this weekend, or at least watched while my brothers made it. ;-) After doing some shopping around, I realized that, at this point at least, there's no way I could afford to do a wood fence, especially if I had to put wire or mesh on the inside to keep her in. So...we went with the (sort of) cheap solution: those metal pole things that hammer in, and rabbit wire. It isn't perfect, but it's enough to hold her, and she was delighted! I still have some work to do - there's a rail around the back side of the stoop, but she can run right under, so I need to put up chicken wire there. We let her out for awhile and just kept her from going over there, but I'm going to finish this afternoon.

I think what I'll do eventually when I've saved up a little more is what another neighbor has done: use the same rabbit wire, but mount it on wood and put up wood posts instead of the skinny metal ones. Then I can paint the wood and it will look much nicer. Still, I got started, and that's important!

Yeesh...did I say "at least" enough times in that first paragraph??

I put concrete footings under my fence to stop the dogs from digging under. So the biggest one just broke the fittings and went through the chain link part when he got scared of fireworks on New Year's.

Bye everyone, see you later today.

Good job Hair! I love it!

If no one else has yet claimed him for May, (I haven't caught up on the posts yet), I'd like to!

May is a great month here in Beach Country. Pre-tourist season, so things are nice and quiet. Good time for food and merryment!

Just finished taxes here... have to send a check in this year... darn it...

Same here...that's why I waited until the last minute.

Think they'll get upset that I wrote "shove it" in the memo section of my check?

We're destined to have 80 degrees and sunny tomorrow!

Alas, it's a work day...but methinks not a lot of work is getting done tomorrow.

You know, it's not very nice of me, but you guys make me feel a little better. ;-) I was hoping to get a good chunk back...but I'm getting about forty bucks total between state and federal. I guess I can be happy that I'm getting something instead of paying, no?

Let's see...forty dollars will buy several CDs...or movies...or whistles...or books...or mandolin strings...life is good!

The sad thing is, I actually owe more to the state than I owe to the feds!

Granted, it's less than $200, but still...that'd be a new slide for Autumn for this spring!

BTW - My little Princess turned 3 last week! We had a birthday party for her at my Mom's yesterday...ate WAY too much food, but had a complete blast.
