The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

It's no great loss if you never do!
Very funny show in some ways, very stupid in others. Typical sitcom.

Okay. I was about to say good afternoon.
But then I determined that the mood of the day was elfbash so I'm glad I'm not here.
OT, I just need to point out to you that Hama was one of the men of Rohan and when he met up with that orc he screamed better than any of the elves in Helms Deep.
but, have to overlook OT's comments today, she must be in a bad way judging from her reference in post 24311 about her instrument not working all night. can't comment. can't comment.
Anyway, now I have to run pick up Myranda and take her home. Will return shortly AFTER the elfbash is over.

BTW, Good afternoon.

Good afternoon, Wneighbor!
I'm sticking to my theory and blaming it all on Hugo Weaving!

Will return shortly AFTER the elfbash is over. Not even elves live that long, so come on back asap!

Really! Just a release of a little pent-up elfbash pressure and everyone gets uppity!

Smeagol can draw a parallel between the British and the Elves... Would you bash Tony Blair (politics notwithstanding)? No, he was a lion. This is not his fight. It is ours... But Tony Blair will not let us go it alone.
So, he fought along side of us. As did the elves. Gallant and noble!
Furthermore, we don't really know what would have been the end result of Balin. Bilbo wrote a different ending to that chapter.
Thranduil might have released them.
An aside... I think when Tolkien went on further with the story, he had to rethink his characters a little. The Elves did undergo a huger character change. At first, they were a "fairies" in every sense of the word. And their worst crime was that they were flat out annoying.
By time we get to the LOTR, their characters had changed. For the good.

I turned on the TV just after I'd asked about that cloud. I saw the picture of the camera getting shot at. They mentioned later about the Al Jazeera reporter being killed, but that was a different situation. The AJ reporter was in or near his office which was very near the Ministry of Planning. An A-10 came in and peppered that building, and later it was show with flames coming out of some top floor and 3rd floor windows. The other two journalists were killed when a tank shelled the Palestine Hotel, after some snipers had fired from some of the windows. Al Jazeera is, of course, going beserk over their reporter dying. They're claiming that we targeted him because we didn't like Al Jazeera's slant on the news. HAH. If that were the case, we would have taken the NY Times and the Wash. Post out long ago! The poor guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I had heard that the camera that had been knocked down was later set back up, so it's not clear that the cameraman was actually hurt. I think that camera had been there a while, so it may not even have been 'manned'. Was it ever made clear exactly WHERE that camera set up was?
There have been snipers firing from both the Palestine and Al Rasheed hotels the last couple of days.

I don't know now!! Last night everyone in the thread was shouting that the reporter had been hit, but now I'm confused. It all happened pretty fast.

Have you heard this song yet? I don't see it's been posted anywhere on FR. It was e-mailed to me as a Netscape file (not a link, but like a picture enclosure, but as a file). I can't figure out how to post the link to that website. Instead I found a file online for just the audio. (The site had some pics with the lyrics on it.) I can e-mail the page to someone if you want to see if you can figure out how to do it.

BTW...that site, http://www.pro-american.com/Free_Music/free_music.html has some really good stuff on it.
