The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

LOL on the whistles!

Just hit pay dirt at work....well pay vermiculite. The last solvent orders were shipped with vermiculite packing. It might not be as good as horse poo, but it will help.

It's especially good for our soil...very sandy river-bottom stuff.

Once, I took a running water hose and pointed it straight down into our yard and it just sunk into the sand...I kept pushing it down and down and down, till I got scared and pulled it up! I swear it went down more than 10 feet.

The soil is just very sandy!

I thought you might get a kick out of a couple of British soldiers mentioned in Mark Steyn's latest.

The two squaddies scoffing at Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon's explanation in Parliament that "Umm Qasr is a town similar to Southampton." "He's either never been to Southampton, or he's never been to Umm Qasr," said one soldier, informed of this while on patrol in Umm Qasr. The second added: "There's no beer, no prostitutes, and people are shooting at us. It's more like Portsmouth."

Dungeons and Dragons is a threat to us all!

Ha! Years ago I worked for a candidate for Attorney General who had a "series" primary challenge from a guy who ran with getting D&D out of schools as his only issue. Our consultants laughed it off.

We won the primary but were embarrassed by almost losing our guy's home city of Virginia Beach. The CBN crowd had organized for a candidate for a different office, but they also voted with the D&D guy.

We got absolutely slaughtered in the general election...

They were no doubt beaten by the powerful D&D lobby.

Well, after it was all over, our candidate sued NBC (over another issue) and settled out of court. [It's a really long story, I'll tell it at Entmoot] I never heard the amount.

But the next time I saw them, he was part owner of a bank and his Mrs. was all decked out in diamonds and fur.

LOL! Did he give up on ridding the world of D&D? - or is it still a stone in his shoe?
