The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Thanks for your feedback on view two Corin!

Glad you liked Eowyn better this time around. Did you laugh at any of the jokes?

Wonderful insight you have on your horses. They are magificent creatures, and I like people who really understand their sensitivities that way.

My horses, after two years of successful barn-entering behavior decided tonight to be BAD. I usually just open the paddock gate, and they put themselves in to their correct stalls. Tonight Bay took a wild turn and went in the pony's stall instead of his own. I shut his gate so there wouldn't be a big wreck if he came back out with the pony in the way. The pony, not sure what to do, stood there for a moment and then ran out the front door into the yard. Mayhem ensued. My Labrador had to be saved from the pony, Bay was in the barn bellering because the pony was missing. The pony refused to be caught, even with grain, finding this whole game to be terrific sport. I gave up and at least moved Bay to the right stall, which he only did under protest, sure that what he really should do was go save the pony. Finally she comes trotting into into the barn and into her stall. Then gets mad because Bay had eaten all of her grain. I took Bay's away too, since he had started this whole problem and didn't need or deserve two dinners. Bad Bay. Bad pony. I flipped off the light and let them be. How did it come to this?

I think I was in Presbyterian audiences the first two times, and this must have been all the Baptists!

We Baptists don't clap, we give a hearty "AMEN!" ;^)

Although for whatever reason our congregation has started to applaud after things like special music. I think it has to do with the fact that we are having a lot of new people come into our church. A good problem to have.

I don't want to start wondering what is left to like.

Everything is left to like. You mentioned on yesterday's interview thread that you hoped all this minutiae wouldn't spoil TTT for me. I think it has probably helped.

I have abandoned the thought that I will be seeing everything in the books on the screen represented exactly as they were in the book. I am now going to see and enjoy PJ's vision of Tolkien's work. If some stuff deviates a bit from the books, well, what legends and mythologies don't have their own deviations every now and then. This is still the best film experience I have ever had, and probably will ever have.

Oh yeah, and it was because of PJ that we all found each other. So I will always be in his debt for that. I can forgive a little Elf-shield boarding down some stairs for what it has given me in return.......you guys. < /mush >

I'm glad you got to see it again, I liked it better the second time through myself.

Regarding "6. While he didn't shave, it appears Aragorn at least got a shower in Edoras. Hmmmm....he showers for Eowyn but not for Arwen? Hmmmm....;-) "

I watched LoTR again yesterday and noted that in Rivendell Aragorn was sporting the fluffy clean look, I guess Elrond made him wash up before dinner.

yuh know ksen, I get uncomfortable when people applaud in church for special music... the last few times I've done solos, I asked the congregation if they feel moved, just join me in sayin' "amen"... most didn't get it though, cuz they applauded anyway...

good mornin' bro...

Yeah, I know what you mean about the applauding thing. It makes me uncomfortable as well. I usually don't join in unless it was something special the kids have done.

However, we are a growing church and we are getting in quite a few people who don't have a church background. So I figure it will take a bit for them to catch on. Like I said, it's a good problem to have. ;^)

Good morning to you to.

Strangeness. I have not been able to access FR at home since yesterday afternoon. I kept trying last night and was getting "Server not found" errors. All other websites are fine. I tried all 3 browsers too, and cleared the cache. I'll try clearing the cookies tonight. Works fine from work. Hmmm...

>>So I figure it will take a bit for them to catch on.

Don't bet on it catching on. None of the churches I've visited in years have been without the clapping. I hate it, personally. I dislike change.

There was just something fantastic about hearing a special music by the choir or the pianist and then hearing all the men in the congregation rumble out "Amen!" at the end and you could feel the bass tones running into your very bones!

Also, I love the old hymns more than anything and most churches now sing the 24/7 "praise chorus's" (Sing a 7 word song 24 times) that a brain-dead person could sing. I see it as nothing less than an attempt to induce a trance on the congregation.

Now I like many praise chorus's, but if I start feeling like someone is trying to induce a trance on me, I become very rebellious, completely blowing any chance of worship.

I'm a very belligerent baptist!

We don't clap. Sometimes when the little ones sing, maybe, but we don't clap. We also don't say amen, there's this rather difficult silence before moving on to something else.

Good morning everyone! My MIL just left for home...we had a pretty decent visit. She gave me a sapphire ring! Very simple, three stones on a plain gold band...just what I love. Uh, I got her a Clapper....

Steve got me a hand-cranked popcorn popper.

Well, some horses I just can't figure out. Marl has two Arab mares, pasture buddies, who are perfectly normal, until they see me. Then they become "Laverne and Shirley", and I'm their "Squiggy". Instant comics, and I'm the butt of their jokes.

Their pranks have gotten so bad that I refuse to go into their field unless Marl is there to shoo them away from me. I guess I just have "big ol' softie" written on me in invisible letters.
