The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

They sure seem to be. I guess he's doing an Alfred Hitchcock thing. Hitch was always a 'man waling down the street' in his movies.

I heard today on the tv about the soldiers in Afghanistan and was worried about the guys the Hobbit Hole has adopted. Please ping me to the info about them too. Saying prayers everyday for all the soldiers in harms way. And extras for those Hobbit Holers. It must be so hard to be there. So sickening how evil continues to use the qualities of good people against them. I heard they pretended to have car trouble and the soldiers were coming to help? Been too busy today to really catch more news.

That might have been a different incident. This is the one we know of relating to our unit.

2 U.S. soldiers slain by Taliban troops in Afghanistan

Morning all-

We went and saw The Core yesterday- very light entertainment. My head is still spinning over how many laws of physics they managed to break and how many geological principles they came close to getting right...ie quartz crystals at mantle temps? Diamond or olivine perhaps but not a quartz variant. Oh well, viewers beware: more fiction than science. But then, just like Armegeddon (the movie), they never intended anything else. The fact that it kept its cheesey edge made it enjoyable. Rat was a riot.

They put the "fiction" in science fiction.

Good Morning! Are there any more Hobbits awake and about this morning?

Good morning! Just checking in for a little while before I have to get ready to go to church. I'm kind of bummed out that Arizona doesn't get to go to the Final Four this year. So much for that avenue of escapism.

Heheh...well I got over UNC not going to NCAA's a few weeks ago. It's racing season anyway.

All humanity is of one Author, and is one volume; when one dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated; God employs several translators; some pieces are translated by age, some by sickness, some by war, some by justice; but God’s hand is in every translation, and his hand shall bind up all our scattered leaves again for that library where every book shall lie open to one another.

-- JOHN DONNE (1572–1631)

Hi Sam!

It's in the 40's and raining here today...the kind of miserable weather that makes you glad to be inside.

Hi, OT!

Warm and sunny here, a cold front with a squall line is due this afternoon, so it'll maybe rain for an hour, probably clear and sunny again tomorrow.

It clears up here tomorrow and it's supposed to warm up. Wish we could have the lousy weather during the weekdays!
