Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

They've finished showing qualifying....now back to the war.
To: Sam Cree; libarian
Good evening Sam!
I think some others made their first post in the Hobbit Hole as well, but I can't remember who they are now.
Oh, libarian, just to clarify, I'm the Hole's only Beorning (so far).
Sam, B5 is short for Babylon 5, which was an excellent science fiction television show. It ran for five years, from 1993 through 1998. While it was on, it was my absolute favorite television show.
Our keywords are all CAPS again.
To: Overtaxed
Too bad... I kind of liked the lower-case keywords... they seemed quieter and more friendly... more Hobbit-like than the ALL-CAPS.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Yes....all those caps...too much shouting.
To: Overtaxed
Why. That is the question that I ponder.

Must be some kind of signal
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
The ponies are just fine. Wet, but drying off now. They are having a big meal before laying down for the night! - Not a bad life really!

That's the question....

Speaking of profound thoughts. This one is sharp.

Ten-year-old Kenneth Waters-Bey salutes as he holds a picture of his father Staff Sgt. Kendall Damon Waters-Bey Friday, March 21, 2003, in Baltimore. Staff Sgt. Waters-Bey was one of four U.S. Marines killed in a CH-46E helicopter crash in Kuwait on Thursday. (AP Photo/Gail Burton)

Leaving the Hobbit Hole to play Trivial Pursuit seems somewhat ironical.
Speaking of trivia, I didn't know ponies would lay down to sleep.
To: Overtaxed
I don't like not knowing things!

We should keep a sharp lookout. See who shows up.
To: HairOfTheDog
I've been trying to avoid those profound thoughts.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
They lay down to sleep when/if they feel secure! In their stalls, they will both lay down at night because they feel safe there. Outside, they will lay down for a mid-day nap, but only one at a time, and the other one will stand over, or nearby, to look for stalking things they worry about somewhere back in their instinctual memory.
Bay is a very good watchman over the pony. If she lays down when he never fails to stand over her, and there he will stand until she gets up. Sometime I will capture a picture of that so you can see! When I was out working on fences last summer and sat down to take a breather, he came and stood 'over' me. Any other horse, I would be concerned.... but I was touched by his desire to protect me. The pony worries less about him when he naps. She tries, but she ends up getting bored and wandering off. She should have more maternal instinct than him, but what can I say? - She's shallow!
Here she is resting outside. I am sure Bay is right behind me.
