The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Then you can weigh in on the Faramir discussions.

Will I want too? Sheesh, some people are taking that WAY too seriously. To paraphrase King Arthur's horse, "It's only a movie...."

Yup yup, working today- if you can call it that. There are exactly four of us in and so far we haven't accomplished much. Christmas was lovely and snowy. We always have small gatherings which are cozy and fun (and low stress). All in all, a beautiful day.

Merry Christmas, and a happy New Year to all!

I hope your holiday was filled with joy and wonderment. We only got a light dusting of snow o'er this way, so technically, I suppose it could be construed as a 'white Christmas'.

Autumn (our 2.5 year old) was REALLY into Christmas this year. It was the first time that she really seemed to care or acknowledge the Holiday season, and her expression on Christmas morning was priceless. It will live with me all the rest of my days. She got a Barbie Make-Up Kit from Santa, so she's been doing her eyes and blow-drying her hair for the last hour or so, since we woke up. We got her a Fisher Price Doctor Kit, and our cat has never lived it down. lol...she was chasing him around the living room yesterday morning, big plastic thermometer in hand, saying "Here, Kitty kitty kitty! You're sick! Autumn make you better!". A couple of new DVD's, including the Wiggles Christmas special and Monsters Inc, some clothes, and an Elmo's Construction Site Remote-Controlled Dump-Truck Playset thing. All in all, she is one occupied kid! I must say though, the highlight of this holiday was last night, when she and I snuggled up on the floor of her room, and fell asleep watching tv. Just before she fell asleep, she looked up at me and said, "Thanks for the toys Daddy. I had a fun day. Glad you're home."

Broke my heart...

The Mrs. and I didn't really go all out for each other this year, as we wanted to spend our extra cash on Autumn. However, I DID get the SE DVD from the Mrs...so I finally have a copy of my own, and can stop pestering Blockbuster. I got her a big comfy monogrammed terrycloth bathrobe (so she can stop borrowing mine!), and an all-day pass to a local spa. We also got movie passes and a gift certificate to the Longhorn Steakhouse from my Step-Father, so it looks like we'll finally be going to see The Two Towers on Sunday. He even offered to babysit, which was pretty cool of him I think.

In other news, I got a job offer on Monday, which I accepted Tuesday morning. It's about the same amount of money I was making before, but the opportunity to turn this into something bigger is great. It's with a Recruiting firm that had just recently opened an office in the R.I. area, and as of yet, haven't had anyone who knows the R.I. market well enough to lead the office. The office has not been profitable to date...hence why this is a great opportunity for me as Sales Director.

So, technically, I was unemployed for 5 days. My longest stretch yet! lol

May the Lord bless and keep all of you, not just in this Holiday season, but each and every day. You kind folks are very dear to me, and I want to thank you all for being such good friends.

Cheers!

Sounds like you had a terrific Christmas IOTN. ;^)

We had told our kids that it was going to be a lean Christmas this season, and they were ok with that. Christmas morning my 12 year old daughter woke us up at 7. We told her to KINDLY wake her brothers up. We got up and put our bathrobes on and made it to the living room before the two boys made it out there.

Josh, my 8 year old, looked at the tree and said, "I thought you said we were having a little Christmas? This is HUGE!" That really blessed my heart since we were only able to spend around $150 on all three of them.

Believe me, I know all about the lean Christmas seasons. We had a number of them when we were kids. The funny thing is, we never really knew at the time how lean it truly was. Our parents did a great job of "covering it up", so to speak.

My wife and I get a big kick out of the recent Lexus commericals, where one of the spouses gets the other one a brand-new Lexus for Christmas. Who does that? Nobody I know...

So, as a gag, my wife got me a little Dodge Viper remote-control car. So, now when people ask what she got me, she can say, "A brand new Dodge Viper! You know, just like the Lexus commercials show how easy it is!" LOL

You mean to tell me you haven't seen the SE yet?

Nope.

Though that may change within a week (assuming my ability to get the time to get everything hooked up correctly -- I have to move my VCR to a second TV).

Hope everyone's celebration was safe and lovely.

I'm still in one piece! Which is a fair piece better than I can usually say about New Year's. (Perhaps having to go to work in the morning, like today, will tone me down this year).

Hullo! - Good Morning!

Yeah - The Faramir thing has generated a bit of debate. I happen to fall between a rant and a rave on it... Because even the worst interpretation of what we saw doesn't ruin anything in Frodo's story, and we haven't seen the last of Faramir, so we shall just have to see where his character goes from here!

I just quit talking to those people who are not discussing the nuance, but building a case for trashing PJ as wicked, and the film garbage. All because one character was a little bit different than they see it. They have already thrown the baby out, and now they are building their argument that PJ is the worst thing that could have ever happened to this story. PJ didn't just get something wrong, PJ is evil and torquing Faramir to acheive some devious end. I stayed with them over at least three different threads. Then I realized I am not even on the same battlefield as them, and it took me awhile to see that.

Congratulations on finding the new job, but more importantly for making Christmas a good one for your daughter.

I hope the cat soon has peace once more too. LOL!

Good morning one and all!

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas. Mine was great, but exhausting! Santa brought Becky one of those horses on springs and she is riding the thing across the tile floors! LOL! She also got Lilo & Stitch, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, and a Sock-Em Bopper guy that yells stuff when you punch him. Have a mentioned what a tomboy my little girl is? Heheheheee..

Alyson got clothes mostly since she is still so young. But Santa remembered to bring her a crinkly alligator with a squeaker in the mouth. She beats him up brutally, so I think that means she likes him.

I'm so beat that I was over an hour late to work today. Spent all day yesterday visiting folks and cleaning up the mess at home, not to mention all the laundry that has piled up (and doubled due to the new clothing). Got everything done though and now it's just relaxation time. I don't have any plans for New Years, although Glen desperately wants to be out partying. I think I'll skip the festivities this year, stay home, let him go and stay out with his friends and if there is anyone up for chat, I can celebrate the arrival of 2003 with you!

Listen to me, jabbering on when there's breakfast to serve!

Piping hot and very strong coffee ready to go. Hot chocolate, tea and orange juice are on the table if you prefer. Mushroom, ham and cheese omelets are ready and I have some fresh French bread to make a sandwich if you like. A platter of bacon and sausage is on the right, next to the griddle with the hash browns in it. ENJOY!!

Hair - you got the Evenstar and the Precious! Lucky lucky! Remember, keep it secret, keep it safe. The Precious is sold out until March 2003, so it is rare indeed.

JenB - Christmas SPAM - tsk, tsk, tsk...Hair is keeping a tight leash on that in here and I've suffered the wrath already. :)

ItsOurTimeNow - congrats on the new job! May the New Year bring you plenty of new accounts and perm placements! And may your temps never have flat tires, dead batteries or stomach flus. *grin* P.S. Those Lexus commercials are soooo ridiculous, aren't they?

Sam Cree - I hope this post finds you safe and well on your holiday travels. Come home soon - we miss ya!

Corin - I figure you are very busy or out of town. Check in when you can. Did you get an axe for Christmas?
