The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Tractor guy gives up.

At least he didn't chain himself to the wrong building.

I dunno, I think I heard him say "Is this the way to the Grange office?"

I just heard them again...our boys, flying over head. Ran out and actually saw them this time...not the choppers, you can't miss them, you can see the guys sitting in the seats. But the F16s. I saw two of them flying way up...the storm clouds are leaving and they were flying through these big grey and white clouds. Gorgeous.

I saw one the other day flying across the sky and right into a rainbow. I wonder if he/she knew it looked like she was flying into a rainbow? It was really beautiful.

Hey ladies, about the entertainment boxes...

I applied for a debit card last week and will be setting up a paypal account when it comes. I'll be sending a small contribution in then, if that's ok. Not as large as I'd like because unfortunately my family's budget is tight and I need to haul a bit more of my own weight. Plus I just had to make a personal loan of large amounts of cash to my mother.

So, what's up? I had a good day at work today... I've actually gotten some writing done in the last few days. I think the weather is inspiring me, though it's turned colder tonight.

Actually, Jen, 2J prefers the direct bank transfers instead of the debit card transactions, because there is no fee to collect the bank transfers. So really, you don't have to wait for the debit card. (I did a credit card transaction at first, and 2J explained all this to me!)

It takes a few days for Paypal to verify your account and move money, so you can do that anytime. Little bits are just fine, and it is of course, also fine if extra cash isn't something you can give right now! - I understand!

ALL:

One of the things the chaplain mentioned in his note was how much the troops enjoy the cards and letters that come in the boxes. He said they like to look through them and find ones that catch their eye to write back to! WE FORGOT TO PUT ANY CARDS OR LETTERS IN THE FIRST SET OF BOXES! Ack!

So I was going to volunteer this: If all of you who want to write them a note should either:

1) Make a nice pretty formatted greeting to the troops and post it here, or

2) email me the same thing via my address at the yahoo hole.

I will print those out and enclose them in the package I send to 2J.

I have a really nice office-grade color printer so please feel free to use color and pictures! If you want to include your real name and personal contact info so they can write you back, send the email instead so you don't have to post that here. Let me know if any of you don't know my email address, but I think most of you do.

How does that sound?

Sounds okay. Maybe we should peruse FR for some good rally pictures.

I've been online shopping for phone cards. I don't belong to Sam's club, but you can get them at their website for 3.7 cents a minute. That's domestic rates. According to some Freepers, a call to Kuwait is $1.55/minute. Someone else said that 1 minute to the Middle East = 10 domestic minutes.

Yeah! - Rally photos would be great! - 'specially cause you are in one of them!

Post links here if you see good ones in the next day or two, or anything else that would be good!

There are supposed to be FR rallies all over the country this weekend. I'm sure we can find something suitable.

I've registered with Operation Interdependence, and am sending boxes of books and cassettes. I'll be including The Hobbit.

I'm considering sending off everything I have by Ursula K. LeGuin, Michael Moorcock, and Stephen King, 'cause I'm sort of p****d off at them right now. Should I?

2J would take a check...

But the instructions would just be to go to paypal and set up an account to use a transfer from your checking account instead of a visa. It is in the sign up process...

In the next day or two they will make two small deposits into your checking account to verify it. They will email you that that is done, and you have to call your bank and get the amounts. When you report in the amounts of the two deposits correctly, they are satisfied it is really your account and you can do bank transfers.

It sounds more complicated than it is really, but it is a few hoops.

I don't know the first two authors, but I think in general it is OK to send them books they might like even if you are p****d off at the authors!
