The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'm worried about it too, Corin! It usually lets me know immediately when someone has requested to transfer funds to me...

I'd call. Keep me posted...

A bromeliad world, that is weird. We have lots of bromeliads in the yard here, including many wild ones up in the oaks, they do well in S. Florida. However they hold water, in which mosquitos breed. OTOH, I like that quality, all the mosquitos keep the neighbors indoors where they don't bother anyone.

I had forgotten that I was a little ticked at not finishing Riven (yet), wonder if I have the patience to go back into it again. Mapping out the underwater "train" was where I get a little tired of the thing.

The Grishom books and the Minority report are clean, aren't they?? (I don't know anything about them.) I see where he says "NO sexual content" (Not minimal). I would take that to mean nothing more than the kissing Aragorn and Arwen do.

Movies like that are hard to find nowadays. Spiderman would be good, I think we could get by with the wet teeshirt scene. X-Men is good.

Hi everyone!

Lovely sunny and breezy here in Miami today. I expect it will rain soon though. :(

First of all, everyone should pray today for our troops and the innocent Iraqi civilians who will undoubtedly be facing a rough night tonight. Let's keep them in our hearts and prayers and ask our Lord to protect them from harm.

OK, here's breakfast.

Plump, juicy sausages and nice, crispy bacon (4 platters each), buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs with ham, cheese and green peppers, as well as, plenty of hot, strong coffee and chilled juices. ENJOY!

Corin - Congrats on the 40lbs, Master Dwarf. I know I haven't been helping much in the way of the Dieting Dwellers, but you've done a great job nevertheless! :)

2J - I was still debating whether to send you a check or try out PayPal. Seeing the trouble Corin is having, I think that a check is the right way to go. It'll go out today, sis!

Hair - What on God's green earth were you doing up at 4:30 in the morning!!?? Alyson woke me up at 4 AM to have a bottle, but I skeedaddled right back to bed after that! I slept in late, so thank goodness my boss is travelling again! *grin*

Hi Ruth, I didn't get a chance to comment on the picture of you singing on stage. Nice picture of a sharp lady. Glen is proud, I'm sure.

I haven't seen Minority Report but Jen liked it. (It was given to me and I can't get interested in it) I think movies that were big run movies would be fine. He just doesn't want pornos.

The Grisham books are legal mysteries. Not sex books.

I know we are working through the chaplain, and we will respect his sensibilities. I don't think the army as an organization would say no to a blockbuster movie that has a love scene in it. ;~D

That said, I am not sure it is worth it to send the books to you, but I don't know! How much are used books at the store? - I would hate to spend $2 sending you something you could have bought for $1.

SE FOTR DVD is running $27 new at Amazon, and $20 used. I think for the difference and uncertainty involved in dealing with a person, I would just buy the new version from Amazon unless it is available cheaper in a store near you. Shipping would be free. Let me know.

The debit from my account and the credit to Paypal happened at the same time. Did you do the bank transfer thing?

The debit came out yesterday. But the Paypal site says it won't be cleared on my account there until tomorrow. I'm pretty po'd about that.

Thank you sis!!

I feel like we're really whamming the chaplain with items and it's a lot of fun. After this "shipment" I plan on sending out "snacks"...Moonpies, slim jims, all kinds of good things!

I think Grisham, Minority Report and Spiderman are all okay. I'd guess they mean they don't want the more hardcore stuff. ksen could probably tell you more about that....

ducking for cover...

How about comedies? Pink Panther movies, The Great Race, The Pricess Bride, Blues Brothers, Marx Brothers, things like that? (Of course, I just mentioned a few of my favorites right there). An honest laugh is always appreciated when stuck out in the boonies.
