Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I can't stand scotch. Me neither really! Specially just 'on the rocks' like he used to drink it.
He worked at the local brewery here for twenty or more years.... I think he would be just as pleased if I just had a beer instead. I don't have any scotch anyhow!

Good morning...
Coffee is brewing...I've got one piece of my birthday cake left that I demanded Steve leave for me, since he ate I would say 80% of the rest of it (and I baked it for myself!) It's a cinnemon crumb cake...more like a coffee cake, so I'm going to have it for breakfast.
When the war is announced, I'll be here, if Steve's not home.

Bush is supposed to give a speech at 8:00 tonight. I wonder if that means the 1:30 speech is off.

Great pictures of the Jedis!! I like that the boxed have US Flags on them. Are they made that way, or did you add a sticker to them?
I was struck with how much the Chaplain resembles OhioWFan's son, Eric!
Thanks so much for doing this! I was thinking about sending some stuff, but I think I'll send you some money and save the double postage of sending stuff to you, then you sending it to the Chaplain. Or did you want me to send stuff directly to him?
Do y'all have a Sam's club close by? If so, you may be able to get larger quantities of stuff at a cheaper price than at Wal-Mart. Send me your Pay-Pal info by Freepmail, and I'll send you some bucks today.

Supposedly, the Farmer's Almanac says we get another blast of something on the 27th.Maybe it will just be rain! That would be nice here, it would help fill the reservoirs.

Top o' the mornin' to ya, Hole Dwellers!Let's have some breakfast. I have no idea what a traditional Irish breakfast is, so I'll leave that to another Hole Dweller if they are so inclined. Although my breakfast is nothing special, it's still food! :)
Freedom toast with maple syrup, biscuits (I've drizzed some with honey), fried or scrambled eggs (tell me which you like), 5 platters of bacon and 4 platters of juicy sausage patties. A frying pan filled with hash browns is on the stove and the covered pot behind it has grits in it. I don't think it's the recipe Sam Cree was asking for though. :)
Coffee and cocoa is ready and the juices are in the icebox! I see the beer and whiskey are already alfowin', but I've set out some Bailey's to go with the coffee or cocoa. ENJOY!
2J - First off, I hope your birthday was grand! I LOLed at the card you got! The boxes look great! I don't know how to use PayPal, but I would definitely like to contribute some dinero to help with the care packages. Can I send you a check?
Jame - Good luck with the new job! I'll pray that everything goes smoothly for you and it usually takes me a week or so to catch up on the Tolkien threads anyway, so no worries there!
Hair - I love your lawnmowers! So bright! So beautiful!

Powell is speaking at 10:45 a.m. I'm guessing you're right and we'll hear from the President at 8:00 not this afternoon.

The problem with buying stuff from Sam's is it usually comes in big amounts. I figured during y2k that if I buy the smaller amounts at Walmart, it is more expensive than at Sam's, but not that more. (I actually went from store to store with a note pad! Albertson's was the WORST!)
Anyway, I opped for smaller amounts and more individual items.
You can do what ever you want! You can give me the cash and I'll buy the best I can, or you can give me the cash and say "Get exactly this" Like if you give me $10 and say, "Get ONLY Aveeno body lotion", that's what I'd do!
I can't give his address. When I send an item that you contributed to, I'm going to put your name and address in an email (not in the box). Then, the Chaplain can "hopefully" write you back. That's when I hope you will be able to introduce yourself and then take it from there...not have to go through me anymore.
I would love it if several Hole Dwellers were in on this...this is the best group. If you have any items like the used VHS (in good shape) or a DVD you don't want...send it to me!

Back in the early 90s, I saw Lorna Luft in Guys and Dolls at the Kennedy Center.Oh, did they stage it in the Vehicle Assembly Building? I bet they could fit a lot of people in there.

OK. I'll do both, send some stuff AND send some money, so Freepmail me the PayPal info. I'll take the kids to BJ's and we'll just have some fun!

OH THE BOXES!! I almost forgot!
The boxes were made by a local company here in Tulsa. Green Bay Packaging. They originally made up 4000 and those were gone within days. They made up another 4000 and I got 50 of them. I'm passing them out in Sunday School, Steve took some to work to fill up and I plan on taking some to my next homeschool mom's meeting.
The flag is printed on there. On the other sides it says "Gifts from Home...with love". Then USA.
Just kills me every time I read it.
The boxes were a great blessing.

No deadline. I'm going to price the books today. I'm waiting for Bear's labels to put inside them. So it's at least going to be a week...maybe two.
The tips I've been hearing is "Don't send big...send often". It's the keeping in contact that tickles them, apparently.

More about the boxes...
The day I started organizing this Hobbit Hole Care Package project, my best friend (who introduced me to this chaplain) emailed me and told me about these boxes...she saw it on the news.
Talk about perfect timing! These boxes are DONATED. I priced them at the store and they were over $2 a piece!
What a great blessing!

Colin Powell was just on saying that the only thing left for Saddam is for him and his cronies to leave Iraq.
Also said the President will be issuing an ultimatum tonight.
In other news, the Dow is up 125....
