Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.
Oh well...I did send Rosie some cookies, upgraded the graphics card in my sister's computer, made a pie, watched two ballgames, fixed pizza for dinner, did the dishes....
Absolutely not! They deserve none!!
We've found some very nice Australian wines also.
LOL! I can just see you whipping that card out every now and then!
The past couple weeks have been spent in training for my new job. It is rather enjoyable so far, and the company is very good. They are growing quite fast, so there should be plenty of opportunities. I have one more week of training before I start my regular evening shift. I don't particularly look forward to working until midnight, but they pay more for working after 7 p.m. Unfortunately, it is not the type of job where I will be able to freep much. That was about the only thing I liked about my tech support position.
One of my friends just bought some exercise equipment, so I will be going to his house a few times a week to work on my adipose tissue situation. I am making progress in that area - my belt is down to its smallest notch! I will soon be time for a new one.
And I had an interesting email exchange with one of my former roommates today. He is somewhat liberal although we never discussed politics much. He is now working at a university, and was defending Bush! I guess all that second-hand Limbaugh had an effect after all. Anyway, he was wondering what I thought about what he called the "book-burning" mentality of the response to the Dixie Chicks. Here is my response:
I don't really care what the Dixie Chicks think. Or Martin Sheen or Mike Farrell or Madonna or Sean Penn or Susan Sarandon. I disagree, but I have no respect for them in the first place, so their opinion carries no weight. But there are a lot of people out there that see these celebrities getting all this public airtime to criticize our leaders and current course of action, disagree with them, and have no way to respond. Average "Joe Six-Pack Dixie Chick Fan" doesn't get invited on CNN to tell them why he disagrees, so the only way he can voice his opinion back is to stop supporting the Dixie Chicks. I think that is why you see all this boycott-type stuff going on. It's not really something I particularly care about (I don't buy Dixie Chicks CD's, go to many movies, or watch West Wing anyway) but I can understand why people would do it. I don't think its the return of McCarthyism like the Hollywood folks claim, its just ordinary folks trying to voice their opinion in return.I'll have to keep working on him. Maybe there is hope after all!And I don't think these people are catching flak just for criticizing Bush, but also for implicitly supporting Saddam. The main problem I see with the "peacenik" crowd is that they are the ones stringing this out and are actually making ware MORE likely. If the free world was firmly united to take the bastard out, he would see that he is in deep sh!t, and be more likely to disarm, go into exile, or find another way out. When Saddam sees the big protests that compare Bush to Hitler but say nothing about him, it empowers him to thumb his nose at the world. So he takes three steps over the line, then backs off on only one to get the anti-war people saying "See, he's disarming! He's complying. War isn't necessary." Then he starts the process again.
I'll be out of town enjoying our spring weather tomorrow, going to do some hiking, photography and sightseeing with some friends, and will stop by again as soon as I can.
Well, I didn't move anything (yet). But I planted my container garden (most of it), overseeded the front yard, continued to get leaves up out of the back and purchased a forsythia, rhodoendron and photinium (or plants like but spelled correctly)
I'd been in the yard for 8 hours. only taking a break to take Jr. to and from baseball practice. At 6:00 he came out and said "will you take me to the gym." So we went. I rather unentusiastically rode the bike. He played raquetball with a woman from our church who is the #1 ranked women's amateur player in Virginia. She's offered to teach him to play.
Yeah, we have a lot of yellow cars around here in the spring.
Oh? Really? Who won?
Can you get magnolia leaves where you are? Do they grow that far north? I have some that the Mrs. bought for me several years ago at Christmas show. We have them on a wreath form and I just add the fresh fruit, which usually stays outside with no problem.
But if you go online and look for the Williamsburg Christmas, you can probably find out how to dry your own.
2J - I've sent money to my PayPal account. When it's verified, I'll send on to you.
