The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I've done a mock-up of a large size label and a small size label... I think the large one looks better, but I'm not sure it would fit inside the cover of a paperback book (almost too wide). The graphic on the small label is a little muddy and hard to make out, but it would easily fit inside the book.

I'll look for other label sizes when I'm running errands tomorrow, would be glad to print some out for you.

Do you have a preference as to what you'd like the text on the label to say? I used "Compliments of The Hobbit Hole, visit us on www.FreeRepublic.com" but this can easily be changed to anything you like, just let me know.

OK! How many labels would you like me to print up?

Do you know how large the books you intend to buy are? I'm nervous about the big label being too large... do you by any chance have a paper trimmer? If you do, I could shrink the graphic and include some trim lines on the label so that you can trim them down to fit the book better.

I shoulda read through all the posts before I responded.

Heh, the danger of playing late-night catch-up.

I'm exhausted, and my allergies are causing a sinus headache... I should be in bed already!

I don't have a paper trimmer, but I bet kinkos does and it's just down the street...i could borrow theirs!

I can tell you the book size...I'm just getting those cheap ones with the crappy maps, begging your pardon...

They are six and three quarter inches by three and three-quarter inches..

You can get the entire set including the Hobbit for like $12 at Sams. Comes sealed in a box.

You're right, I'm sure Kinko's does have a paper trimmer! We have a Kinko's right around the corner from us, as well.

I'll put together something this weekend. Now though, I think I've run out of steam... time for bed here.

Oh, how many labels did you want printed?

Can you email me the info? If so, I can run it down to Kinkos and get say, 16 run off on sticky paper, cut them and get them in this current shipment...maybe. Four book sets would be $48.

If not, I can just wait till things come together for the next shipment...

That sounds fun! Does anyone have the distance from Hobbiton to Rivendell figured out? I don't want to do the math, but I will do the legwork! :)

The label I created is in PrintShop format... I could email you the file, but you would need a copy of PrintShop for it to work. Or, if you have a copy of Microsoft Word, I might be able to create a label in that format and email it to you.

Alternatively, I could get them printed down here and mail them to you... when did you plan to send off the current shipment?

It's going out Monday...I've already told the Chaplain.

All I've got is Paint...I've got something else, but I can't remember what it is...I'm on the mac right now...

You could try it and I could try to open it?

Anyway, I'm wanting to send these boxes out pretty regular...so I'll have other opportunities...if it doesn't work...I could just wait until later and you could snailmail them to me at your leisure.

Speaking of leisure...I get the house all to myself tomorrow for my birthday...the boys are all going to a hockey game. I'm going to freep and eat popcorn all evening!

I'm going to log off here for tonight, now.

Good night!

Monday is tight scheduling, but I'll see what I can do... if I can't get something emailed to you before Monday I'll print them out myself and snailmail them to you.

Enjoy your birthday! :)

Good night...

Ok, I just got cleaned up and wanted to say one more thing...the boxes I'm sending this time were mainly just going to be hygiene items, because of the risk of spills. I was going to send snack items next time, but I can go ahead and do the entertainment boxes next. Here is the list of items I intend to send:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/807952/posts?page=19909#19909

Each catagory is separate for a reason...you wouldn't want your Pace picante all over your books and magazines, nor would you like shampoo on your Twinkies! So, take your time with the labels...and we'll get them out next time.

I might be able to do the same with ecurbh's smaller banner graphic on a 1" x 2 5/8" label, if he approves.

No problem. Sounds like you have everything taken care of already. If you want me to resize something from the high-res original for you, just let me know.
