Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I was wondering if what they labelled the Rapahanack River might really have been the James, I was noticing the remnants of an old canal alongside, similar to the old canal alongside the James.

There was also a canal system built on the Rappahannock upstream from Fredericksburg. It also fell victim to the railroad.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but am anxious to. Maybe I'll try this weekend.

Lunch? Oh yes!!! Here we are...

Fried chicken, mashed taters and gravy, along with some lovely baked beans that have simmered all night. I beg the Dwarves to please eat them sparingly! *wink*

I've tossed a fresh salad for the dieting Hole Dwellers with some grilled chicken or, for WN and others who aren't chicken fans, grilled lean boneless pork chops. Let me know what kind of dressing you like. :)

Shrimp scampi, baked tater skins (loaded with cheese and bacon), corn on the cob and croquettes to munch on.

The pints are icy cold and ready to serve, but there's plenty of juice and soda if you want to skip the buzz this early. ENJOY!

'Preciate it, but (and now, the latest:) Dr. Big-Chief-Muckety-Muck was called in, and like Zeus throwing thunderbolts, is going to remedy the situation. The sysadmin crowd is about to be zapped if our gal's hijacked email isn't returned and Ms. Switchboard is going to have to notify her address booklings that her addy is now changing. Teeheheee!

Welcome, welcome! Just arriving for the morning, but saw Scott mention you're an AF Academy grad. My brother graduated in 1969.

Graduated in 1973, so your brother was leaving about the time I got there.

And yes, the land around those parts is beautiful. A little steeper and drier than the shire though. Probably a little colder in the winter too.

oh, you are such a sweetie, I'll have all that but you know, I can always make do on everything else you have besides the chicken. I ain't that much of a picky eater. And if it comes right down to it and I'm hungry I don't have a problem with eating most anything. Even if it's not a favorite item. But, them pork chops and that shrimp scampi... they rank right up there at the top with cheesecake
